Guest Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Don't think All-Dayers were ever as good as All-Nighters.....can't give a definite reason why though....Maybe it wasn't as rebellious to take drugs, dance and lose the plot at 3pm as much as it was to do the same thing at 3am... But anyway my top 3 (that's what l'm leading to.. ) are in 3....Wigan Casino...late 70's in 2....Sleepless Nights,Dublin...now.. and in 1............ The Ritz.....70's,80's and the rest... What do you think?? Edited March 1, 2011 by webbydublin

Mark S Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Whitchurch and the Ritz those were the only ones I went to .
Mark S Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Yep civic hall Got vague memories of one at a swimming pool in Market Drayton about 1972 Soul n Splash I think it was called Edited March 1, 2011 by Mark S
Cheapsiderecords Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Never did a lot of All-Dayers so I will go with Tewkesbury Watson Hall and the Locarno.
Bo Diddley Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 A few from Wolverhampton used to go to Tiffany's in Newcastle Under Lyme. The Flaming Emeralds sticks in my mind from that venue. Here's a ticket from 1978. Also liked going to the Locarno in Birmingham - particularly after an alnighter.
Julie Moore Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Burnley Bank Hall Miners comes to mind closley followed by the Ritz Manchester Julie x
Guest mickeyb Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Yes Kev. Watson Hall and Locarno were great. Many happy memories. But for me Todmorden was the only one - it was like a nighter. So many faces from all over. Remember the coach from Cheltenham New Years Day in 81 - picked up at the King Teddy in Glos and a load more got on. Everyone was hung over but by the time we got to about Frankley the vibe had changed completely. Remember Jeff Leach, Sarah Buchanan and a load of the young Cheltenham crowd - made it for me, it wasn't about it's not as good as the Torch/VaVa's/ the Cats/Wigan blah blah - they were just up for it
Guest Soultown andy Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) The ritz by a mile few good uns at the carousel also in manchester . Edited March 1, 2011 by Soultown andy

Davetay Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 The Ritz...............no contest. Yes Ritz 1st Manchester. Mecca 2nd Blackpool. Rose Room 3rd Burnley. Others good one where Whitchurch, Sale, Darwin, Burnley Bank Hall, Handley.
Wilxy Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) I'd say Whitchurch Civic was probably my fave all-dayer, but remember a couple of occasions doing Yate All-niter by car, back to the'Port...."wash and brush up" then on the train to Birmingham Locarno All-Dayers.....and totally free from all things other than the music itself I remember doing the odd 'dayer in the West Midlands and I'm sure one of them was Tiffany's Halesowen, whilst in Gloucestershire the superb Watson Hall in Tewkesbury.....albeit my very first couple of all-day soirees were courtesy of the Inter city soul club at Tiffany's Durdham Down in Bristol, and shortly after at the Stirling Suite at Yate........Great Great Days Regards wilxy Edited March 2, 2011 by wilxy

Guest martyn Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Was never really a fan of Dayers but must admit to a soft spot for Kettering Central Hall in the mid 70s
Davetay Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Cats Whiskers Burnley with Chairman of the Board on. Ritz -Manchester Tiffany's-Ashton-under-Lyne Mr Ms Darwen The Chairman of the Board all-dayer was a special one.
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Probably because it was the first proper Northern Soul event I ever went to, I have the Marshall Suite in Stroud as my fave alldayer. Also went to a couple of tha later Locarno alldayers, Tewkesbury, Gloucester Leisure centre, and a great one in a posh hotel in Cheltenham (during the Stafford era). I wish there were more now. Allnighters are great, but I am more happy dancing all day while feeling fine now, rather than hitting that 4am wall etc.

Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I think that was the Queens Hotel,(the posh one)... My favourite, Whitchurch with the bomb scare just when Levine played Linda Jones for "The very first time out" and we all had to go out Steve Agreed on that Whitchurch one Steve, on the Major's coach from Glos, and we all pushed off to the pub when the bomb scare happened...and yes, it was the Queen's Hotel in Chelt, think Pete French put that one on, deffo remember buying a Cindy Scott "I love you baby" Veep demo that day!
Northern Soul Uk Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 'Cat's Whiskers' in Leeds always hit the nail on the head.
Petedillon Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Was that Whitchurch all-dayer the one with that dodgy pop-soul band- The Real Thing!! from Liverpool on? Seem to remember going on train from Leeds via Manchester after an all-nighter at the Central so it would be early 70's I think. Took us forever to get there. Edited March 8, 2011 by PeteDillon
Petedillon Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Just thinking it wasn't them it was another dodgy group with youngsters in..got it!! Sweet Sensation!! I'm sure they were on.. Edited March 8, 2011 by PeteDillon
Guest Matt Male Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Brum Locarno for me no contest. Interesting how all these places, Ritz, Tiffs and Locarno were all Mecca dancehalls. Seems like they had the alldayer scene sown up.
Pete S Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Brum Locarno for me no contest. Interesting how all these places, Ritz, Tiffs and Locarno were all Mecca dancehalls. Seems like they had the alldayer scene sown up. Same here, though I usually ended up in some sort of trouble.. Often a nice crowd of skinheads to offer help and advice on leaving the place too. Stafford Top Of The World had some good alldayers in 79 on alternate weeks to the Locarno, unfortunately I was arrested twice by the DS and decided it was probably not the best place for me to go after that.
Mrtag Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Seem To Recall Morecambe Pier Did A pretty Decent One Mid 70's Me Thinks!!
Mark B Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 The Ritz Cats whiskers Burnley anyone remember the Belle vue all dayers think you might Andy Mark

Cheapsiderecords Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) and a great one in a posh hotel in Cheltenham (during the Stafford era). That was the Queens Hotel, reet posh it is. Davetay Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 That was the Queens Hotel, reet posh it is. I remember that one as well. Only DJ I can remember was Danny Everard? although I am sure Jerry would have been on as well. I forgot about Marshall Rooms as well Talking of posh ones, I can't belive I didn't post up.. Dunkenhalgh All-Dayer in the mid 70s in Accrington. They where a few of us that walked it there being in our own town. Another All-Dayer in Accrington was at The Spinning Jenny a year or two later.
Northern Soul Uk Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 The Ritz was good but the dance floor made me feel seasick :-)
Guest Matt Male Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Same here, though I usually ended up in some sort of trouble.. Stafford Top Of The World had some good alldayers in 79 on alternate weeks to the Locarno, unfortunately I was arrested twice by the DS and decided it was probably not the best place for me to go after that. We were only young teenagers and not very tough and we got chased through the bullring from New Street and all the way to Hurst Street every time we went. It was almost like the alldayer had paid the skinheads and punks as the pre-event entertainment.
Dazdakin Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Never done as many dayers as nighters...(who has!!) but two stick in my memory as awesome. Birmingham power house(Lacarno) And i think it was a one off but it was truly fantastic..........Tic Toc club in Coventry.
Wayoutgirl Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 1. The Ritz - Whitworth Street 2. Elizabethan Suite - Belle Vue (Great ballroom floor) 3. Carousel- Plymouth Grove
Guest SteveC Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 St Ives Abshot (one off) - biased, I know, but I'm proud to say that it's probably one of the best events ever held in the South!!!
Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Just thinking it wasn't them it was another dodgy group with youngsters in..got it!! Sweet Sensation!! I'm sure they were on.. Your memory's spot-on, definitely saw them at Whitchurch..
Andy Jackson Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Notts Palais gets my vote - dancing to Rob Smith and The Vicar - Saw Junior Walker there. The Bali Hai room downstairs was the Jazz Funk room with a revolving dance floor.
Petedillon Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 haha either way where they on or was it The Real Thing ?
