Love it or loathe it , Talc goes together with Northern Soul dance floors like August and Deneen ...... but when was the devil's dandruff first thrown down by dancers to aid their movements ?

When the scene came into being , there was no need to use it at The Wheel , as it had its' own " talc " - the concrete dust on the floor ; but in the following growth years years following its' inception , I cannot recall it being used or seeing it on the dance floors at The Torch or at The Highland Room : if it was used , you would not have seen it for the amount of bodies on them .

If it was not used then , that would make its' rise to prominence / evidential use , come into being in the mid 70s ( WC ? ) , therefore resulting in its' use since then .

When did you see it first used ?

Don't know (or care) about the music played there don't care about the talc!

Don't like the idea of being watched all night

If people wipe there feet on the chairs ban them!

Nobody is watched all night, I said if seen putting talc down they will be asked to leave. Obviously the security, promoters and club owners have to keep an eye on the place otherwise if something happened and we didn't see it we would be accused of not doing our jobs. You can't win with some folk.

Somehow I don't think he would be there in any circumstances.

I hate talc on dancefloors. It's a total menace.

It (together with little foil and paper squares down the bogs) nearly shut down Bradford Queens Hall when I was running it on a couple of occasions.

And it was the deciding factor for the management at Leeds Astoria to stop us doing any more niters there.

Even though I stayed cleaning the floor for two hours after one niter, we could never get it cleaned to their satisfaction. As once they'd noticed the problem they saw talc everywhere, and that was that.

I take it you don't go out then? You are watched every second of every day by someone. There are cameras everywhere - even in soul venues.

Good dance floor everytime

Couple of different soled pairs of brogues

Dance floors get either to sticky or slippy

Will use talc if I feel I need it

Usually come back with my best loaks covered in the stuff other people seem to think that the floor needs to look like an effing dusty desert!!

The club is called the twisted wheel by the way;)

What's wrong with taking photos or being photographed? Unless you're not meant to be there of course and your cover gets blown laugh.gif

Thank you very much

The original question posed for this thread was " Talc When was it first used on the scene ? " , which to my mind , wass a sensible one hopeful of considerate and thoughtful discussion .

As replies in recent times have become detached from that question , I am closing the thread .
