Guest Big Jim Slade Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Just picked up a copy of Cold T's 'Funky Preacher' 45 on a Chicago label called Loretta records. There's a decent vocal side and a great instrumental flip. Both sides border on funk, modern, and disco sounds which is fitting given the 1977 date on the record. I assume this record is rare because the Chicago store I got it from never had it before. Anyway, I've got a solid VG copy and I've got no idea what it's worth and I'd like to know before I put it on the trading block. Any information on this record concerning its rarity, its history, and especially its value would be appreciated as I can only find information on their other 45 releases which are also on the Loretta label. I contacted two other 45 heads about this record and they knew nothing of it so that's why I'm bringing this here. As always, thanks for your time. Big Jim Slade PS: I do know that this (slightly remixed instrumental b-side) is available on the BBE compilation called the Real Sound of Chicago but I've yet to find any liner notes specific to this particular record. boba Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I have 3 cold t 45s, still need this one if you want to sell it. The lead singer William Hinton passed away last year sadly. This group later became beige.
Dmc Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 The "Funky Preacher" 45 is probably the rarest of the Cold T releases, and one of the best if you ask me. It seems an unknown Loretta release appears every year or so...pretty obscure stuff outside of Chicago. In addition to the two Beige LPs and the Billy Hinton solo LP, here's what I know on the label: LO-1950 Cold T "Pieces Of A Love Affair/ Think Of Nice Things To Say" 1975 LO-1951 Cold T "Fall In Love (Lady Love)/ Ain't No Love At All" 1976 LO-1952 Cold T "Funky Preacher/ Inst." 1977 959 Cold T "You Ain't Never Seen A Roach/ Pt. 2" 1979 LOX-1962 TBA "Plastic City/ Somebody's Love" 1980 761 Beige "A Challenge/ Give Her Up" 1983 LO-5835 Billy Hinton "Holiday/ Pt. 2" 1984
