skullsnaps Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 As a labor of love I have posted 360+ funk & soul songs (with a few leftfield surprises) over the last year plus, including label/cover scans. For those that care, all but about 25 of them are original pressings from my collection. Go here for the main page: https://funksoul.tumblr.com/ follow the links on the page to either stream all the music, or check out the archive page to see all the label/cover scans together. Hope some of you enjoy it. Let me know.

Guest Brett F Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Great stuff, i did something similar a few years back, but i couldn't find the time to keep going, so i know the dedication that goes into such a project, some great tunes, a few i've got and plenty i don't know (and a few i've written down), i love the funky edged stuff, i buy a bit of this myself, great to see the Sharon Revoal on your site, plus the fantastic Ray Alexander Techniques (it's Chris Bartley on vocal by the way). I have the Willie Tee on Gatur, looks a good oddity the misspell. Leos Sunshipp, great tune, i got this on the Lyons demo 45', see you have the LP scanned anything else on there ? (worth listening too). I liked the Japanese modern soul 'Yamashita' cut, very spacy, love to listen to that afro-funk , plus a bit of that psych stuff.... At times i like to break my own (quite narrow minded ) soul collecting and bag a few of these left-field tunes Keep going fella', top class. Brett F Edited February 22, 2011 by Brett F
skullsnaps Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 I have spent more than year posting almost 400 song files to my blog with cover/label scans as well. All but 25 of the songs come from my collection and are from original pressings. They range from the rare (Frank Hutson, Antonio Castro) to some more well known tracks. I started the blog as a way to share music that I love, nothing more, nothing less. Since I no longer DJ, it seemed like a good way to turn people on to records they might not know. Hope anyone who checks it out enjoys it. Here is the link to the main page: https://funksoul.tumblr.com/ This link opens the archive with every song file and label/cover scan I have posted loading as you scroll down: https://funksoul.tumblr.com/archive This is a 3rd party app someone created that instantly loads all of the songs I have posted into a player and allows you to stream them all with one click. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work correctly: https://www.trntbl.me/funksoul Any feedback is appreciated, hope people find a new(old) song they love

skullsnaps Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 Thanks Brett, glad you've enjoyed the blog. The time consuming part is turning vinyl into Mp3, I never have the time to do more than 15-20 tracks at one time.
Mike Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 both topics merged and moved to audio can you use just the one thread for updates etc thanks mike

The record also got released with the correct spelling as well as the most common version as by the "new way" on guyjim. I've never seen the version with the 'GUI' spelling that you have.

boba Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Is the New Way version the exact same recording? I'm pretty sure it is. I never compared the records side to side to check for slight differences though.
Kris Holmes Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I can definitely recognize a couple of my record's pictures & soundfiles on there
skullsnaps Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) I can definitely recognize a couple of my record's pictures & soundfiles on there When I started the blog in 2009, I would post some songs that I discovered online (I guess some of them were yours!), but after a few months, decided to just stick to my own collection. Sometimes, I use someone else's mp3 that I find online because it's just too time consuming to record all that vinyl, I can only do it on the weekends. Of the 500+ songs on there, there are 25 records that I don't own the original pressings of, and I'm looking for those 25! Edited August 22, 2011 by skullsnaps
