Godzilla Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Anyone know what Ginger called it when he first spun it out? Ady Sometimes cover up names used to vary on daily basis didn't they? I'm sure I heard it referred to as "Burning Bush" by "The Burning Bush" on at least one occasion (Wakefield Unity maybe?) The rest of the time I think it was, quite inappropriately, The Gems.
Wiganer1 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 still rare on a red issue...got booted on contact if i remember rightly..
Goldsoul Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Danny Schloss was lead singer. All white band produced by Woodstock legend Artie Kornfeld.
Bo Diddley Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Isn't this also collected for the B side by Psych Types?
Tfk Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Just a thought, was there a connection to the group Ujima, apparently they had 2 band members that were in a group called The Burning Bush [or maybe this is a different group called The Burning Bush?] checkout Ujima website:- https://www.myspace.com/ujimaband ktf tfk Edited February 15, 2011 by TFK

Douglas Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Slightly off thread here, i remember Pat Brady covering Gene Toones up as Frank Dell 'Baby You Got It' and finding that Frank Dell actually cut a track called 'Baby You Got It'

I doubt the group on Mercury had any connection with Ujima. Artie Kornfeld told me they are a White band from New York and mentioned the band members. If your friend has I'm Not Ready by Burning Bush...I would be STUNNED.
The Tempest Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 One of those " marmite " records !!! Personally I like it , seem to recall Mr Thorley spinning this as his opening record a few times

If your friend has I'm Not Ready by Burning Bush...I would be STUNNED. well you need to be stunned, there are obviously two burning bushes..... here is an extract of an email with nick.... Sometime I may dig up the master to I'm Not Ready done by Burning Bush prior to being assimilated into Brother Love a/k/a Ujima. Those guys first recorded in my living room around 1969-70. Lead singer - bass player, Melvin Watson, later sang Let me Lay My Funk on You with Poison on Roullette, before joining Anglo Saxon Brown, the last incarnation of Ujima, recording at Sigma Sound in Philly.
Guest gordon russell Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 when the bush was burning they should of chucked all the copies of this record on it and the tapes (just in case )

Quite right Godz . Ginger covered the disc up as " Burning Bush " , and gave one of its' first spins at Wakefield . When it received later plays , it was " credited " as being by " The Gems " . Malc

Guest martyn Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I'm with the others who recon the Gems . I used to have an old tape of St Ives in 77 when Ginger introduced it as " a new sound from The Gems " (or words to that affect ).

I used to have an old tape of St Ives in 77 when Ginger introduced it as " a new sound from The Gems " (or words to that affect ). That was probably the first play when i flogged it to him. it cleared the floor and I sneaked away whistling nonchalantly.
Anoraks Corner Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Isn't this also collected for the B side by Psych Types? Think that period Mercury sleeve doesn't match the release number...was it not introduced later? -ps I love the disc...both sides!
Dean Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Think it was Richard Searling who to introduce it as "Burning Bush" by "The Burning Bush"????He did introduce it as just......... here's "The Bush!!" Cheers Martyn I've got a tape with Searling introducing it as Burning Bush by Burning Bush, I can't recall date but it woul be well after Ginger first palyed it.

Hi Dave, You've got a very observant "Evil Eye". I didn't think they matched but as it came floating across from the USA dressed like that I thought I'd leave it alone!

Sheep Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Remember standing next to you at St Ives the night you first presented it to Ginger, he played it on a portable record player, liked it, then gave you £60 for it, I believe, a good sum then.!!

Guest Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Also muti-coloured ones and have had a white promo.
hullsoul Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Also muti-coloured ones and have had a white promo. Ken Yep the "Contact"boot is multi coloured. It was the multi coloured one that was sold in the back bar at Wigan for good money if memory serves me correctly??? Cheers Martyn
Andy Rix Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 My recollection, supported by contemperaneous documentation (when I find it) would indicate that Ginger had this covered up as The Gems - You keep putting the burning on Andy
macca Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 In 1979, at a st.ives all dayer, I bought john vincent's red labelled emidisc of yvonne vernee. on the flip was 'the gems - you're putting me on'. that was a good two years after both records were big plays. I'm still an yvonne vernee nut. the burning bush thing. well, yet another time and place record. I'd be lying if I said it didn't get me up on the floor back then.
