Think Rob Messer still has a spare U.K. copy - he had 2 copies so he could play Pt1 and 2 together.

He was thinking of selling one after seeing a copy fetch stupid money on ebay recently.

Sold my copy about 5 years ago for £50 :D

About same time sold Quik 'Berts apple crumble' and The Game 'Gonna find me some-one' for £100 for the pair.... :D ........mind you they went to a very good friend.

Oh well.............. :D

Is there a US issue credited to British Walkers? I know the US issue on Soultime, but that's credited to Mr Dynamite.

got to be honest i just gathered that the release would have got credited to the actual band and not mr dynamite ... i reckon thats the only release ... got a copy to sell mik?

Has anyone seen 'The British Walkers" 45? Has anyone got a scan?

I was told (by someone who should know) that it was a myth. Who knows?

From 'manifesto' magazine August 2005

"MR DYNAMITE - "SH'MON Parts 1&2"-SUE - WI4027 -7"

Mad as a box of frogs this one. Very collectable on Sue there is, by some accounts a US release on the Soultime label but as yet I haven't seen one despite asking around. This was alledgedly a group called "The British Walkers" (which is probably why some say it's a British recording) who's lead singer was Bobby Howard a man who later led The Sweets on their Mercury 45 "Broken Heart Attack" . 'Sh'Mon is a full on uptempo mid sixties funk number reminicant of certain James Brown recordings of the time. The backing track sounds far to full on to have been a UK band and the vocalist is screaming his tits of for all his worth on side one while the band gets side two for themselves.. its a love it or hate it track and personally I love it. But The British Walkers were an American group....and I maybe be way off line here, but I was listening to Sonny Childe's "Heartbreak" on Polydor the other day and was struck with how many similarities there are in the vocal on this and the vocal on that. Who knows. "

Deffo on Soultime U.S. and deffo credited to Mr. Dynamite.

Rare on both labels (probably rarer on U.S.) but something infinitely beautiful and precious about the U.K. Sue label....

Never seen any copy credited to British Walkers....Existance is Urban myth methinks.... thumbsup.gif

Was originally presumed by many on the mod scene to be James Brown due to vocals being familar with JB as well as the fact that he used to advertise himself as 'Mr Dynamite'

I was one of those sellers of Mr.D on ebay and no it was not rigged. I've had my copy for nearly 20 years(showing my age now) and thought that if someone wants to give me a lot of money for it they can have it. I had offered it my mate(Gav Needham) a couple of weeks before for £250 and he turned it down, boy was he sick, but he does have a US copy that he paid through the nose for.

ALIS CLA!

I thought that a copy credited to the British Walkers turned up on e.bay a couple of years ago? I'm sure I bid on it. But my memory isn't what it used to be, if I'm remembering what it used to be like correctly.

A U.S. copy on Soultime was on ebay a few years back (first one I have ever seen, and not seen one since!) but was credited to Mr.Dynamite....not sure if same one you saw Stuart?

I may be getting confused, not the first time but I haven't been drinking honest. Maybe the blurb just identified the singer out of the band as Mr D? I've not seen one before or since either. And I've been after one for a long time, was too fussy with copies offered in the past (£65 but a few crackles :fool: ).

My dad managed The British Walkers, who were an American band from Washington, D.C. Their lead singer Bobby Howard recorded "Shmon" under the guise of Mr. Dynamite, just before the band finally broke up.

The British Walkers recorded an incredible version of Sam Cooke's "Shake", just before Allen Klein pulled the plug on their label, Cameo Parkway. I was hoping "Shake" would make it on the Cameo Parkway box set released this year, but maybe the next one. In any event, "Shake" in this version is a fuzzed-out rocker.

I've got some more on the band in my blog at:

The legendary guitarist Roy Buchanan was also a member of the band...

Blimey, i forgot about him Kenny, is he still around?. He was my biggest buyer for about a year, he just appeard one day at my sales table down Tottenham court road & took all the stuff that i couldn't get out of, couldn't hardly speak a word English to start with. He'd only been in the country 2 weeks, then said he was going to "pwess up a cuppa o albums han needed to buwwow som wecods". I called him a "cheeky wuckin monkey", he thought that was funny & must have used it for his label name. He did give me about 30 albums for the loan of the records. He then disappeard, strange, nice chap.
