I've been playing Ebay rather a lot just recently, wheeling, dealing, buying, selling, been picking up bits and bobs of things I once had or that passed me by over the years, so rather than trawl through page after page on there I find it sometimes quicker to just punch it an Artist name, title etc. just done it on Patti Austin and noticed these £8.99 Buy It Now Coral - I've Given All My Love To You Look A Likes, also seen The Vibrations - Cause Your Mine on this White Okeh looking thingy fuck me they can't even get the label right lol, I know this bootleg thing has been done to death on here but these bloody things seem to be out there in mass, whos doing them? where are they coming from? and why do Ebay allow these things to be sold on there? I don't have a problem with the odd 70's boot, reissue being offered on there but these things are new and current, I thought a couple of people got busted and taken to court but even that seems to make no difference at all.

Then there is those nasty looking home made things on there as well, Motown tracks a plenty Oh I so wish they would go after these people which might go someway to stop this abuse of copy right, the joke is that some of the titles are pretty common and cheap enough to look for on the first generation original so makes you wonder whos buying them, they have no investment or rarity value at all and I can't see the point of wanting to own something which has no authenticity, if you just want to own the tune then why not simply download tracks off the internet or buy CD's, seems to be this it has to be on vinyl mentality with the Northern thing but again the joke is buying these fake records has nothing to do with that ethic as it ain't collecting is it?

A few years ago one of my first topics started asked the same questions re. all these boots. I know we can all buy a carver/cutter or whatever but they are expensive and surely there aren't that many folk out there with these machines.. I'm pretty sure some of the big bootleggers are known... I'm guessing with the technology available these days its just as rife as it was in the 70s...

As for ebay.. well they make a ton of money out of everything sold and unless copyright holders take them to task (or court) over it I guess they just let these things go on and on. Hasn't there been quite a few courtcases against ebay from multi-nationals re fake/copyrighted goods??

Doubt it will ever ever stop but it is infuriating having to wade past boot after boot even after you've narrowed your searches down.

Morning Mark

I think plenty of people have given their views to ebay about this ,and not got anywhere ,so i would hazzard a guess they really are'nt interested!

Problem for me is ,i moved away from the UK ebay many moons ago to get away from browsing through this rubbish.

It was harder to find originals than boots .lol

Only now it seems the f**kers have followed me and started listing on ebay USA :hatsoff2:

However ,as much as i hate the monotony of seeing it,nothing makes me madder than seeing sellers deliberatly trying to dupe innocent buyers with blatant lies regarding 1st presses ,2nd issues etc etc .

Even when you contact them and let em know ,the ones who reply with apologetic excuses ,never change the listing

May be viewed as off topic (but I thi k it's very relevant and hoping someone can help before I start a new topic).......

Think I might have dropped a bit of a bo11ock recently. Listened to henry brooks / debt to my mother for the first time a few weeks back. Did what mark did and punched artist into the search on eBay. Found one, watched it, bid and won.

Didn't do any research as to price, poss boots etc and nothing in the description made it immediately obvious that the tune was a boot.

It arrived today and label looked suspect so I searched on popsike only to find that the labels on those look different, release numbers on labels are different (and the price!)

just wondered if:

a) this tune has been booted or us it a legit issue?

And

b) if I've bought a boot what do you make if the below? Exact description from listing. Do I have grounds to claim they didn't mention it's a boot?........

"

LISTEN  TO BOTH SIDES - Sound files taken from 45 for sale - TWO AWESOME SIDES!!!

HENRY BROOKS - Greatest debt to my mother / Mini skirt

Condition - New

Now deleted and hard to find"

cheers

Hi Azza ...... oddly i got a message off a mate who did exactly the same adn yes it was a boot/re- issue !

It was listed as a buy it now for around $275 so he pressed the buy it now ..but luckily never payed before he found out..lucky escape.

Their are two ways to tell an original of this :- First and obvious one is the " E " between the P's ....looks different and secondly the numbers on the right hand side should read P-333

Hope this helps

Heres the original scan and the boot with the wrong numbers and the "&" thats wrong

My commiserations if you've been caught, but I don't think there's much comeback based on the description. I am immediately suspicious of anything that is described as new, which is probably an accurate description if it's a newly pressed boot. It doesn't state it's an original copy and 'now deleted and hard to find' is a statement of fact. Just hope you bought it cheap.

Get in touch with steve luigi he'll buy it...

Could be easy to slip up with the new/used description bit. I'd report it anyway and try me luck, say it is a boot and not an original, you never know you might get your money back. Bit cheeky and misleading if you ask, the seller in his description hasn't described it one way or the other.

Like i said earlier Chalky...people being a bit evasive with the truth ...rather than state what they obviously know is 2nd issue or boot ,they choose to be very conservative ,which is not technically lying .

regarding the new /used wording ..these are just "drop down box" options when listing ..technically if it looks unplayed then it could be deemed as new ???

Azza has been pretty lucky if he only paid £15 ,although it's not much consolation if you don't want it ,i:e only play originals ,it could have been a lot worse.

Even if the seller said he'd offer money back on return ,it'd cost a tenner to post it back to be signed for

Im sure there are plenty out there who'd pay £15 for a look-a-like Henry Brooks, re-sell it and get your money back !

Wasn't as new on the drop down Nev, that is what they put in the content bit.

Gonna message the seller, might push the eBay/paypal route too. Personally I think the seller knows it's a boot and has only dropped extremely subtle hints that it might be a boot, which is intented to decieve.

If all else fails, I'll probably re-list, as a BOOT.

Thanks for all the view points though, very helpful.

I never touch boots usually, but thought i might pull the hammer on a Rose Batiste Hit & Run to tie me over until I upgrade my original (you know maybe prolong it's life by a bit more time). Got it in the mail & it's taken from low bit mp3s which have been pressed to vinyl, not even playable out or in for that matter. Lesson learned

As stated in another thread I reported thos Frank Wilson test presses but nothing has happend and ebay wont reply to any of my messages. They are a sham in my opinion.

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a boot when you can as Mark said download it or get it on a cd- The only reason is because they want to be DJs that why! They want as I call it their 15 minutes of fame but when they are sussed out they go all quiet or get nasty because they have been exposed as fakes. Their does not appear to be any ethics in this scene anymore and is why Im losing interest! Thank god for Blackpool FC

Big statement saying no ethics...

As been and always will be all manner of folk on this scene... These fakes for want of a word have not just appeared overnight... The ammount of events makes it easy for those with fake goods to play out...

No matter, same old topic... We know who do it the way we want, just choose your events....

Report this Azza. if you paid via paypal i thought there was the option of cash back if fake goods sold..

We must have someone on here who knows who makes and who sells this shite????? a good chance the boot-leggers are looking at this thread too biggrin.gif

Good luck mate and press for action, you just might stop others getting caught out.. :D

Good news is I messaged the seller with a polite message asking for a refund based on it being a boot. Must've struck lucky for a second time (first time being it was only for £15), as the guy said no probs. Just need to return the record, happy days. They also apologised for confusing wording in the listing.

Would imagine not all sellers are like this though on eBay, especially those trying to decieve purposefully with their snide goods.
