Guest jseegee Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hey Spike i didnt understand the comment about Spencsr Davies either. They were white so does that mean theyr'e not a soul band but the question originally was about white sounds pre '73 Erm, i am confused1
spike1 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Spencer Davis were a rhythm n blues band and that to me = soul Don't know if they could be Put into that confusing bracket of " northern soul"? But they were ( I'm almost sure!!) the opening live acts at both brazenose and whitworth street twisted wheel sites At all allnighters and soul venues in the seventies that I went to gimme some lovin keep on running trampoline ect were. Big floor fillers ! Ok steveie winwood went on to more progressive rock ??? Stuff but the early stuff is soul to me! Blue eyed soul ???? "spike" Edited February 6, 2011 by spike1

Malc I discussed the subject of the first play / plays of Paul Anka last night at Paul D's birthday evening . It appears my water was right , as concensus favours Pep at The Cats . Another pre - 1973 play , was by these gentlemen ...... The Marketts " Bella Delana " Malc Edited February 6, 2011 by Malc Burton 1

Anoraks Corner Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Another pre - 1973 play , was by these gentlemen ...... The Marketts " Bella Delana " At what point did their 'Stirrin' Up Some Soul' first see action? Always reminds me of the Yate nighters.
Guest Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 At what point did their 'Stirrin' Up Some Soul' first see action? Always reminds me of the Yate nighters. Late '73 or early '74 , hence my not including it with the mention of " B D " . Malc
shelly Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Stirrin up Some Soul was played at Wigan late 73, remember (god knows how)being one of he first in one night with Gray, anyway as it was empty and it was one of the first records played, the sound virtually pinned us against the wall, and no it wasn't the DS in disguise! No, with thought, the sound that pinned us against the wall was Sandy Nelson -Sock it to em JB, but the Marketts was next. When was the Vogues - That's the Tune first aired?
