A great record and one I picked up as a lad after hearing it on a couple of tape swappers tapes thumbsup.gif

Was surprised to see it go for quite so much on John's auction last week

What's the story on this one anyone please?

Cheers

A 45 that's bubbled away on Northern Soul's backburner for what seems an age. Occasional outings at the rare & underplayed evenings has kept demand buoyant for decades. Recently this smooth example of vocal group Northern Soul has been discussed on forums a few plays at the larger venues, and whoosh it's on the lips of most-all who seek those under-valued sleepers. Click the soundfile to remind yourself of the sheer-quality this 1967 Miles Grayson guided NS dancer emits. Personally I love the flipside too...a down-beat harmony ballad of the finest kind.

Sorry, this item has already been won!

The winning bid was £ 384.00

i dont know maybe just the manship factor i too picked this up in the 70's for probably no more than a £1.00 and sold it last year for what ii thought was its price around £75.00 obviously there has become a demand for it to push the price to that level but i would have thought it was worth no more than £125.00.

I first heard this on a tape from Rob Marriot in the late 80s and wanted one immediately.

I eventually got one off Tim Brown's 'wounded record' list for a tenner some years later. It was fatally wounded though and I couldn't play it out. I got a great copy off Rob Smith about 5 years ago for £70 I think it was. When it arrived the package was shaped like a banana - no card inserts - only a ripped up Kellogs Cornflake box for protection (go Rob ). I was sure it would be broken. Luckily it was fine.

Top tune indeed!

My first recollection of the record was circa 73 I am pretty certain one of "Ian Levine's" advert for The Highland Room referred to it....

Yep. Me too. It never really took off and then just languished for years as a cheapie.

Sounds friggin' brilliant now! :hatsoff2:

Must admit that when I first saw the result on the auction I was gobsmacked, nothing at all to do with the quality of the tune but more to do with the fact that I raved about this record a good few years back, played it a few times out and about and felt that it never got the recognition it deserved, now it appears it's getting that and much to my annoyance because I don't have a copy now!! A top tune indeed!!

as already said, quite gobsmacked at the auction result, did do a topic on this a while back saying imo how the backing was quite similar in parts to

paris blues, still think the same unlike some of the comments i had!!lol

another thing anyone got a issue of this? only seen demos, and strangely most are minty condition!

top tune needs more plays

My other half Nick has an issue of it , he was at JM'S about a year ago and enquired about auctioning the said record , and John said he was confident of achieving £400 for it . . . so he was pretty close , as the issue is some way rarer than the yellow demo.

i think this is gonna turn out to be just like issues of tobi legend, few and far between compared to the demo's. strangely, i had one of these out of a collection about 6 or 7 years ago and sold it in virtually mint condition about 2 years ago.....one of a million thats been tried but perhaps never quite appreciated enough for it to go big......until now...yes?.....is that what you're all infering?....of course, thats what its all about isnt it?, consistantly plugging these things. a bit gobsmacked at the price though, probably let mine go for about £40 ( even mick smith would be laughing at the ridiculous amount paid, in his books always a cheap record, but thats mick for you...the collectors best friend!)
