Prophonics 2029 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) I had one of these, Mick Smith took it off me in a trade for about £35 but that was to the legend. Edited January 29, 2011 by Prophonics 2029
Northern Soul Uk Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) I had one of these, Mick Smith took it off me in a trade for about £35 but that was to the legend. How long ago was that? and what would you reckon the value to be now? Thought there might be more replies, is it rare on this label? I have seen the one on UK RCA with 'Can't help loving you' on the other side. Thanks for the reply. Edited January 30, 2011 by steveluigi

Pete S Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Where does the red Canadian issue fit in the price range? £25 I'd say - had one for ages, sold it for £20 in the end, but records go in phases, so you never know
Dean Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 £25 I'd say - had one for ages, sold it for £20 in the end, but records go in phases, so you never know One finished on ebay over the weeknd for about that price Pete. Something in me was tempted but the seller didn't accept paypal and I don't like handing out credit card details too much. Can never make my mind up about it, I like it but think I shouldn't. There's something about the chorus hook that reminds me of arms aloft in a large halland happy nights. By the way new website looking good, I'm keepin an eye.
Soul-slider Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 My demo is yellow, thought RCA-Victor demo's were white?
Gene-r Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 My demo is yellow, thought RCA-Victor demo's were white? Yes they were - until 1968, when they were yellow for a couple of years.
Northern Soul Uk Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 One finished on ebay over the weeknd for about that price Pete. LOL, Yes it was I that bought it, thought I'd take the risk with the CC for the track. ended up paying £25ish but the postage was expensive at $20 so a total of about £38. Looking like about the right price going by the comments on here, or a bargain if you don't take the postage into account.
dthedrug Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 HI ALL.. THE POSTAGE COST HAS ALWAYS GOT TO ME ON EBAY, AS WE ALL NO IT'S A PERK FOR THE SELLER, IF I THINK IT'S TO HIGH, AND I MEAN LIBERTY TAKERS, EVERY ONE SHOULD SEND A MESSAGE TO THE SELLER STATING WHATS THE EXTRA CASH FOR, IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING IF EBAY HAD A POSTAGE CHART, AS A GUIDE FOR THE BUYER, I DON'T WANT TO UPSET DEALERS, BUT IT WORKS OUT, EVEN IF YOU ARE THE ONLY BIDDER A £1.99 45 COSTS £4 -£5 TO BUY, WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR BOX OUT TO A SOUL NIGHT AND SOME ONE PULLS A RECORD OUT AND SAYS HOW MUCH? YOU SAY £13 THEY SAY CHEERS I WILL HAVE IT AND YOU REPLY THAT WILL BE £21.55 WHAT WOULD YOUR RESPONSE BE?? YOUR PAUL ANKER IS A NICE COLLECTIBLE THE ACID TEST IS IF YOU COME TO SELL, I THINK IN YOUR CASE, THE RECORD IS A CLEVER TOUCH AND WORTH £30+ BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BERGEN IF YOU HAD NOT PAID ABOVE THE ODDS POSTAGE, AND SOMETIMES IT COMES LATE, EVEN MORE REASON TO QUESTION THE POSTAGE. PAUL ANKAS NORTHER DANCERS ARE ALL WORTHY OF OWNING AS THEY GREAT EXAMPLES OF RECORDS THAT PACKED THE DANCE FLOOR AND WHEN PLAYED THE MEMORIES ARE AS STRONG AS THEY CAN GET, BOTH OF PAUL'S DANCERS IN MY BOOK AND ARE 1st CLASS EXAMPLES OF NORTHERN SOUL DAVE
Eddyw Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 steve was the seller youngernow 2 by any chance , Eddy

Northern Soul Uk Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Heheh!! mad as a box of spiders!!! Just watched a copy of this sell on Ebay, exactly the same label (Black US RCA), possibly slightly better condition than mine that I paid £25 for a couple of months ago, went tonight for £111.00?? EH??
Pete S Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 John would be able to get £150 for Footsee he's that good at it. Nobody is going to tell me that this Paul Anka record is worth more than £40, cos it ain't!
pikeys dog Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Quality-wise it's worth nob-all. Shockingly bad record.

EH?? £111.00 seems high until this, £191 English pounds and it sold in April., more than twice what JM's auction went for, strange times indeed. https://www.popsike.com/paul-anka-when-we-get-there/160564690529.html
Northern Soul Uk Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Ridiculous! Why is it fetching so much? Is it as rare as they are making out? How many on here have one and what did you pay??
dthedrug Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Quality-wise it's worth nob-all. Shockingly bad record. HI YOU PROBERLY DON#T CARE THAT I THINK YOU HAVE GOT IT SO WRONG!! This record is a classic example of a NORTHERN DANCER, Played at the CASINO in the 70s got revived at the 100 club in the 80s when collecting UK ISSUED NORTHERN was at it's peek, and then forgotten until this year, and it is a RARE UK record, try finding one for under £80 today and the DEMO is worth £160+ if PETE OR TED want to correct that price it's fine by me, as I would want £200 for mine, I could understand your view point if you did not go to WIGAN or disliked NORTHERN DANCERS, but you have not said so, next time you here it, relax and try moving your feet to the beat, and chill out for 3 minutes it.s worth it, a cracking dancer #1 Dave Kil

Maximum I'd say is £100. I quite like it. There's also a KIki Dee version but it's taken at a much slower pace and nowhere near as good as this one.

Hi All Cheers Pete , well there you have it realy, so the value is around the £100+ mark for a UK minty- or an ex+ Demo, as I love the record and collect UK stuff I would rate it as a must have in your 1st 300 UK Dancers, and I can think of a lot of records that are crap, £70 is a bit low for 2011, maybe it's his name & we are all soul purists now days?? the US copy is far cheaper! ain't it??? DAVE Kil he is allwhite really?
Airfixkid Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) theres a black uk label standing at £89 on ebay at the moment! usa copy appears to have not charted at the time even though Anka did have some other stuff chart that year, Edited May 20, 2011 by airfixkid
Guest Gogs Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 OK have to admit that i've always loved this record, and was thrilled to bits when i picked up a copy (ex) for £30 a couple of years ago.
