I have my 55th in 9 days time, if I'm honest with you some years ago I said "if I reach 55 I'll be dead chuffed"

Been asked by a few to put together my all time top ten to play on the night, if the same scenario was chucked at you , what would you pick and why?

I'm having some big probs with this however certain records mean so much to me for various reasons such as Out ON the FLOOR--DOBIE GRAY, 1st time I heard this was Bletsoe late 1972, Eddie Dinn brought it and that Sunday we must have played it 100 times round Debbie Latimers farthers House..iconic ???

what would you play??

Paul, looking forward to the big bash mate. These are nowhere near my top 10 records but for one reason or another mean something to me such as a time, a place, a person or another particular memory. Loads of soul I love that ain't Northern or danceable but for Northern I'd go for these. All early stuff but that's where a lot of my greatest memories lay --

1 - J.J.Barnes - Please Let Me In

2 - Dee Irwin - I Only Get This Feeling

3 - Homer Banks - A Lot Of Love

4 - Billy Butler - Right Track

5 - Bobby Treetop - Wait Till I Get To Know Ya

6 - Rex Garvin - Queen of the Go Go

7 - Robert Banks - A Mighty Good Way

8 - Alexander Patton - A lil Lovin' Sometimes

9 - Johnny Wyatt - This Thing Called Love

10 - Sapphires - The Slow Fizz

PS -- Can't be arsed to go into reasons why apart from J.J.Barnes was the first record ever to make me physically tingle and as such changed my life forever and Dee Irwin was the first ever record to make tears flood down me cheeks.

I am looking forward to what will definately be a top evening Paul , both as a socialiser and as one of the DJs invited by you to play / share a spot with our fellow muskateer , Jez Jones .

I have often attempted to put down on paper what I consider to be my " top 10 " , but always fail , as I find that the ten becomes eleven and twelve etc. . However , here are NINE that stand a good chance of being in my ............. top 50

The Sapphires - Gotta Have Your Love

The Du-ettes - Every Beat Of My Heart

Robert Parker - I Caught You In A Lie

James Brown - Papa's Got A Brand New Bag

Joy Lovejoy - In Orbit

Bud Harper - Mr Soul

Alvin Cash - Twine Time

Jr Walker - Sweet Soul

Bobby Bland - Call On Me

No doubt I will talk to you / exchange emails before , but see you on the 5th

just had to do much the same thing...on wednesday was on sean chapmans radio show and he asked me to pick 6 tunes that meant something to me...not my fave tunes of all time but were more interesting to chat bout

little queenie-bill blacks combo..can remember being 6 in '73 and playing my dads first issue uk copy..along with his motown and my gary glitter etc  can still rememer thinkin 'bill blacks combo'? they sound shit ! but i loved the tune

what more-zz hill...great cheapy thats hard to find and one of the first tunes that got me back into the soul scene about 7 years ago after a big break djing reggae..started sllipping it into my reggae nites in bristol turning a few heads !

how could it be-esquires..another cheapy that should be played out more, came across a soundclip by accident on a website and was well chuffed when i later found it for a fiver

riding for a fall-delroy wilson...killer rocksteady and the first tune i paid (more than a tenner)20 quid for !

i can feel it-carl carlton...niccis choice really but i love it too and for the same reasons..sooooooooooo much emotion ih his vocals

someting funny going on-bertha tillman...recent discovery and over the last few months the most requested of my tunes at go go children

would have also put...

hey little way out girl-del capri(corperation) first northern tune i bought aged 11 in 78 on grapevine

freedom-clancy eccles...killer bluebeat id been looking for for years till i found a ex sound system original copy for a couple of quid..hardly ever hear it out

kaya-bob marley..name of my scoot back in the 80s and my fave vegetable

down in the tube station-the jam...wow ! had an effect at about 14 that i will always remember...story telling to music at its best

so there you go not all soul and not my fave tunes of the moment or all time ,i dont even play some of em much but when i do they take me back to a single moment in time which is more interesting me thinks

dean

like i said not my top ten as they would be dont pity me,love slipped...,if thats what you wanted etc..no real reasons other than theyre great records and i liked em
