Could anybody tell me what an original copy of The Dreams "(They Call Me) Jesse James" (DC Sound) should look like, please? (Vinyl/ styrene, matrix stamps, run out groove etchings etc.). Thanks, Martin.

has it been booted then? there's so many originals i wwouldn't think the need

I didn't think it had, Dave, which was why I didn't think twice before buying one blind off ebay. However; the one I received looks like it's made from that 1980s style vinyl, and has loads of random stuff scratched into the run off groove. I don't want to accuse the seller of anything before I know my facts, though, so if anyone can tell me what a genuine copy should look like I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

OK, so this one is vinyl with a moulded label. The label is identical to the one above (thanks for the scan Rbman). The recording is the same version as the one on refosoul (thanks Kenny). The etchings are similar to the ones you describe, Dave, but in a different order. Going counterclockwise they read: 1003A, ULD-1001 [with the 1001 scratched out], "JESSE JAMES" (GENE and BETTY JULY 69) LW [sideways] , squiggle [possibly "DMI" upside down] 07/10/69 squiggle [possibly "jost"]. There's also a matrix stamp [possibly AJW] above and to the left of "JESSE JAMES".

I'm going to assume that it's genuine (afterall who's going to counterfeit a $10 record?), and wait until I find another copy to compare directly. I don't know, though, the record just looks and feels too "new" for a 1960s product. (It's spotless, feels too "plasticy" for 1960s vinyl, and even has rough edges like it's just come off the press).

Thanks everyone for your help.

Martin
