Pete S Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 l always thought they were late 60's and early 70's.......That were difficult to dance to... Difficult to f*cking listen to, you mean...
Citizen P Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I have no idea, I don't know what it means at all. When I first started reading Blues and Soul, A Crossover record was one that made it in the Pop charts, especially in the US, in other words had crossed over from being a Soul Hit (or C&W) to making it in the mainstream. Nowadays it seems to mean any record slower than Mid Tempo Tony
Guest Andy Kempster Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 what are your thoughts..... sorry I've just had a very good lunch..... surprised the thought of crossover ever even entered your head martin, even after a "good lunch"
Soul-slider Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I was always under the impression that they are late 60's, northern but a bit slower? I'll get me coat.
Ceejay Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Difficult to f*cking listen to, you mean...
Mal C Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 over used term I reckon, that said I suppose you could say margie Joseph - One more Chance could be the archetypal example of Crossover, now that aint hard to listen to is it? Mal.C.

Mal.C. I think that's one of the all time great records, but I don't think it's crossover, personally...it's way too strong, it's Northern to me
Chalky Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Cab be any 6ts,7ts,8ts etec etc,.its a sound not a date ! it used to be a certain style/sound and date, as said late 60's early 70's, now it's anything that fits the genre/style from whatever year a dealer decides.
