Premium Stuff Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 Come on soulsourcers - you have had long enough to come up with something for me on this.
boba Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 google makes it look like she did spoken word on a roy ayers album in 1998 1
Chalky Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I presume you wish to know who played "Somebody Really loves You" first and where? If that is the case I dunno If not can you elaborate
KevH Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 google makes it look like she did spoken word on a roy ayers album in 1998 Yes looks like it.Bonita Brisker.
Pete S Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Think it's just a collector's record to be honest - might have had Stafford plays maybe - I have a tatty one for sale if anyone wants a copy (tatty label, vinyl ok)
Platters 81 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) real nice crossovery flip too........in feel if not date Edited September 15, 2012 by platters 81
soul45s Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I played it now and again at the very early Burnley Niters, I still play it occasionally at Bradford underplayed nights. I think both sides are class tunes...
Chalky Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Both sides had spins over the years but nothing major that I can remember. Like Pete says tape swappers fave years ago.
Pete S Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Both sides had spins over the years but nothing major that I can remember. Like Pete says tape swappers fave years ago. Don't rate either side to be honest. Not the best sales pitch, I know
boba Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 the "somebody loves you" side is awesome. of course i am not using northern soul as my rating criteria though. 1
KevH Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 "so much loving" - full on dancefloor stuff, what's not to like? 1
Pete S Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 "so much loving" - full on dancefloor stuff, what's not to like? It's got hardly any hook, no melody and it's messy?
Premium Stuff Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 It's got hardly any hook, no melody and it's messy? All the characteristics of a great Northern record Pete Cheers Richard
Windlesoul Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Agree with Paul, Bob and Richard, both sides are fab. 'So much loving' was played loads in Scotland in the mid 80s, loved this as a youth and even then assumed it had been played yonks before that, I assumed because of the tempo before Stafford? Somebody etc flip more recent attention I think Edited September 15, 2012 by Windlesoul
Robbk Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Bonnie Brisker was the younger sister of Miller Brisker, a Detroit jazz saxophonist who toured and recorded with Aretha Franklin. He was the arranger on Bob & Fred's Big Mack record, and played sax on many Jazz albums headlined by other Jazz artists. Interesting, that along with Magic City owner, Ernest Burt, Motown's Alan Story and Timmy Shaw were involved. I wonder is Ms. Brisker recorded for other labels under a different name or was a member of any Detroit groups. I haven't seen any reference to anything else she recorded. Does she bear any relation to actress, Bonita Brisker? Edited September 15, 2012 by RobbK

A good mate of mine from the states recently sent me a reel ,which had the Delrick publishing sticker on it.The tape luckily was in good enough shape to convert, will have another listen but there is 2-3 bonnie brisker tracks ,very basic and unfinnished but fabulous also on the reel two or three timmy shaw unissued tracks great northern and a deep ballad. Some of the names Robb mentions above are written on the box with various other info. 2

Dennisoul Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) "So Much Lovin, deep inside of me" was a regular and popular play for Keith Whitson at the Allanton/ Shotts allnighters circa 88/89...fabulous no holds barred bit of Northern Soul Edited September 16, 2012 by Dennisoul
Kidinquisitive Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I wonder if the Bonnie Brisker that appears in this civil rights photo is the singer? I would guess so. https://www.ebay.com/...y-/390468251909
Robbk Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I wonder if the Bonnie Brisker that appears in this civil rights photo is the singer? I would guess so. https://www.ebay.com/...y-/390468251909 The age is right. But how do you know that the young woman in the photo is Bonnie Brisker? If she WAS acting in that play, then she was an actress as well as singer. And then, she could well also be the actress, Bonita Brisker.

Robb, look at the ebay auction which has the people listed and one is "Bonnie Brisker".
