CLASSIC! :yes::yes::lol:

I make a point of reminding him of it every time i see him now, and allways make a point of barging him out of the way when he`s looking through records. And Keith being Keith we have a right good old laugh about it :lol:

Paul

Paul, your fav two friends from Blackburn, not, used to do there work in there before the Casino opened in the early days.

I know because me and Mick from Darwin where on the wrong end of their work along with some nasty lads from Preston that they where mates with.

Was it between the main entrance and that cafe??

Not sure if this helps but the entrance to the Empress cafe is on this pic.

Only fight of any ferocity I ever remember was between two huge (fat) doormen knocking each other down the balcony stairs that led down to the corner the gents toilets were in.

I'm sure I remeber mocking some DS inside trying befriend us, but that could be an apocryphal memory that I've implanted from another venue. I def did get searched outside to the extent of having to remove my shirt mid-street.

If memory serves me !! The beachcomber was just behind that White car in the above picture

Think the small dance floor had raised seating to one side ???

Or thus could have been the stage props someone mentioned ???

Only went in a couple of times then it flooded after that they opened mr m's after the nighter

Always felt a bit of an anti climax?

When we got are own transport I think we just used to take off home straight away!

Can't remember any other 7ts nighters having after the main event rooms though? Perhaps someone could tell me different

So did we, usually around 7.30 to avoid the rush, can't remember actually ever being there for the last tune of the night, after all we knew very well what the final four tunes would be...

Triumph 2000 , mk 3 cortina and in front Hillman Avenger .

The Triumph Toledo had different rear lights to that of a Dolomite or 2000 .

The one in the photograph outside WC is either a TD or a 2000 .

I had a white J Reg TD in 1975 , and had to check it was not mine that was in the photograph :( .

l actually got a lift back from Wigan to Widnes in an Orange Hillman Avenger....think it belonged to Pete Higgins R.I.P......... Not that far... but it is when you're in the boot with a load of holdalls!! Honest!!:thumbup:

In Sept 74 the week before the 1st ann, we got a left in a Rolls.

When of our mates (Howard) had started uni and got friendly with a lad from quite a rich backround.

Anyway H talked the lad into going to the Mecca than on to the Casino.

The amount of times we got stopped was unbelievable, because he turned up in his dad's car.:thumbup:

You could get Richard Searling to confirm. Years after the photo Garry "the gossip" Churm told me it was Searling's car, although there isn't a record box left on the roof!

I remember well, as a 15 year old in late 73, I thought I was being clever going to score in the Beachcomber toilets after the nighter. Sammy + another walked in, followed by Daffer(RIP), one of the Ormskirk ex torch boys, who could look after himself. He grabbed my jacket and marched me out of there, and basically bollocked me for being an idiot.

As for the Preston lads, I'm sure they were lead by 2 black lads, 2 brothers, the younger only being about 16 at the time. I first met them at Preston Top Rank when Millie Jackson was on in 1973. We got chased through the streets of Preston that night. Got away though.

On the original thread, a combined fight/bust took place when out side the casino before it opened, a member of the squad put his hand on my mates shoulder(Pete From Southport, ex Wheel, & hard as nails), and said he wanted to search him. Instead he got a good punching, and during the scuffle other people ran across the road to give the squad a kick.

AS for a bust, on a friday night early session in 1975, I was having a piss, and a local tosser, Ian Marchbank came running into the bogs shouting "the squad are after me". He was followed byu 2 of Wigan constabularies finest, whe then wanted to search all of us. I got busted for 52 chalkies, just handling stolen goods, because they were script only. £30 fine. Mike walker told me I was banned for life  , and then went on stage and told the multitude that a member had just been arrested for having two tone pinks! I wish.

Paul, I used to know the names of the Preston lot, can't remember now. but deff sounds like the same crew.

They nicked a car (a light blue ford cortina) off a lad I knew him at knife point after a all-dayer at Preston Top Rank .

The lad was called Joe Sol, he was about 20 at the time, I was 17.

The car in question was involved in a hit and run on the monday night in your town Ormskirk.

It took alot of explaining to the police at the time.

Joe stopped going to soul do's after, but is brother Pete keep going till the early 80s.
