Went to an Oldies-Night in Dublin courtesy of Danny,Pip,Jimmy Mac and Harpo....And the mad-heads from Tipperary....Best night l've had for a long time (and l never had a drink or anything else! :D:lol: )

Two records were played that l have never heard out before although they went down really well and l have always liked them...Dancefloor was rammed from 11.30 to 3am....BRILLIANT!!

The records were 'I'm A Man'-Spencer Davis Group and Money-Barrett Strong....Anybody??

Nice one Webby

Two fabulous dance records thumbsup.gif

Reminds me of when I went to a 'soul night' accidentally laugh.gif in Dublin a few years ago now.

It was during the foot and mouth outbreak and a friend and I went over from Edinburgh to watch the rugby - which was cancelled due to the outbreak.

We ended up in a club - in an old Victorian (?) building like an old theatre, or corn exchange, or similar. It had multiple rooms and in one there was soul being played (not OVO but CD). The DJ playing some northern was a young woman.

The two songs I remember her playing were the Professionals and Capitols 'Cool Jerk', which went down a storm in just the way you described. The crowd were mad for it - and it struck me how it is such a superb dance record when played out loud.

We had been drinking since lunch beer.gif so I don't remember much else - but have always wondered where that place was unsure.gif

Any ideas?

Cheers

Richard

Those two are going back to the early Wheel era. Two good slices of vintage U.S. and U.K. uptempo RnB. Nice to know that they're still filling floors.

That's the place Webby hatsoff2.gif

I even vaguely remember the name of it now - it was a real fun place - cozy - and a very friendly crowd of all types of folk thumbsup.gif

Old club sounds that I have not heard played at a / any venue since Adam was a lad .

Great to see that someone went again the " norm " , and had the testicles to play them

Think Spencer Davis was the first live act at both brazenose and whitworth street twisted wheel venues ??

"spike"

The SDG were formed in 1963 , so possibly could have been the opening act at BS : they certainly were the one that played on the opening night at WS .

John Mayall's bluesbreakers were the act on the last / closing night at BS .
