sepia
i agree we shouldnt start this thread.only because we shouldnt need 2.i was brought up on the scene havn 2 travel 4 over 20years,2 go 2 venues 2 hear the best & original soul records at any given time.cumin fae aberdeen i dont want 2 spend £100+ 2 travel & listen 2 sum twat whos just spent £300 on manship,4 20 boots 2 play his spot.& callin himself a dj(reminds me on sum1 cant think who). wouldnt b so bad.but its records that were made big many times by djs with morals.me im like u RMS small collection, but al original.some known some less know.i try 2 keep it fresh & my own sound.bootleg djs "WHATS THE POINT". pikeys dog
round and round in circles.... You'll never be able to change most peoples opinions one way or the other. Best plan is to seek out venues which operate an original vinyl only policy and give them your custom. Personally I don't agree with the playing of bootlegs, it's a bit like the British Museum putting up a photocopy of the Mona Lisa Link to comment Social source share

Simsy
Ha ha, we really are going to discuss this topic yet again, what a larf. Erm without searching back, wasn't it; serious original label owning collector/dj acceptable and credible at a do? Guest taylormadesoul
no not really.... i feel that this undermines the DJs who have spent a whole lot of time and money hunting and breaking these records............. then for someone to play a £5 bootleg... we should at least hold these DJs in some respect.. (EVEN IF SOME ARE DIVS) we can all play boots if we wish to do so..... but if you are asked to dj at a venue, to me that is a reflection on how the promoter sees your taste in music............ i would never play a record that isnt genuine in a set... WHY............. id rather play a bad set than play boots to be honest...... who on earth wants to be know as "OH,,HE PLAYS BOOTS" I THINK IM STARTING TO BECOME A SNOB" Link to comment Social source share
Supercorsa
Taylormade, if the DJ had no qualms in admitting to playing a non-original, why don't you tell us what the venue was? Personally, I just get fed up with all the hinting at stuff on here. So & So did this, played that, just drives me nuts! Link to comment Social source share

Pete S
Didn't we decide to shelve this most boring of subjects after agreeing that at large or major venues, it's out of order to play pressings, at small soul nights it makes no difference. No, not really. If they're open with what they play it shouldn't really matter. 2. Fair enough, we all get on with one another, just don't always agree on the same things. 3. Obviously their clientele don't mind the format, so obviously the promoter is giving them what they want. Link to comment Social source share
Guest
we haven't all got big wads of cash to buy original copies, J D Bryant is in my mind a brill track but how many own a Shrine copy?? not many i guess so if someone slaps a piece of plastic with a plain white label on the turntable so what?? too much snobbery me thinks, must admit tho id love to see a real one but at the end of the day its all about the music?? isn't it Link to comment Social source share
Gasher
Boots should remain on the feet not the decks. fine for the house but wouldnt play at a venue especially if being a paid guest dj..
