Christian Punky Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 As I got my got damn Vespa stolen yesterday, I came to think about lost/stolen records stories, what a nightmare!!!! Once I lost my box after DJing (dead drunk ofcourse) when going to another venue afterwards, found a friend carrying it around after about 30 minutes as a joke. It wasn´t funny (his black eye wasn´t funny either he told me a couple of days later) Kenny (Burrell) told me his box was stolen out of his car once, outside a venue. He found it a bit from the car, with the records still in it!!! I know Christian H lost his box (twice?!) on a tram falling asleep, but got it back!! Any more of thoose nightmare- record stories around??

Any more of thoose nightmare- record stories around?? link I can only comment on the KB situation as I was among the posse who set out to find them, with a hangover early on a Sunday morning. Kenny phoned me early Sunday to say that he stopped off at the garage on the way home from the Spiders Web s/n to have a pee, the garage was closed so he nipped over a wall, he then made his way home and on arrival noticed his records had gone, he initially thought that someone from the SW followed him home and nicked them, I had a different theory which turned out to be correct. Some opportunist thief was walking by, spotted what looked like a suitcase and made off with it, discovered it was full of "old vinyl" and dumped it close by, Kenny, after putting out bulletins on local radio and an offer of £5,000 for their return, actually found them later on in the morning, the buggers nicked the s/n float and Kenny's Val Doonican cardigan!! I swear if Kenny fell out of the window he'd fall upwards!! Cracking story. David

Simon T Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Over 15 year ago a mate of mine, Nige Parker told me about a time he was DJing up North and having going past the venue a few times (one way system) finally parked up the road. He left his records in the back of his old fiesta to take a walk down to the venue to see if it was open. At that time, he must have had at least £20K worth of record in the box! Walking back up the hill to his car he spotted several item of clothing on the pavement and having passed a few of them suddenly realised they were his!!! He ran back to the car to find that just about everything like his road map etc, including the radio, was gone except for his records!! Lucky F#8ker!!!!!!
Ged Parker Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I remeber being at the Stafford Reunion with Malc Worsley and Roly Ferguson. When we came to leave Roly pointed out that his jacket was missing from where he had left it. Malc went into one he was asking at the bar wanting to see the manager. Roly was bemused saying 'whats' he making such a fuss about it's only a jacket and it's not even his' I said yes but it was on top of his sales box and thats gone too. It turned up someone, Dave Thorley I think, had put them both behind the decks. All turned out well but Roly thinking Malc was making such a fuss about his jacket was real quality .
Cheapsiderecords Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 This is a lost and found story. Back in the late 70's had a mate who had a flat in Balham ) lovely part of town ) anyway went up for the weekend of the Notting Hill Carnival and had a great weekend buying Reggae and Soul 45's and not paying more than 25p for 'em. Loads of guys just had stalls by the side of the road and all the shops were having massive clear out sales. Anyway, on the Monday night got back to Cheltenham station, put the box down while we waited for the next taxi and..... yes you guessed it, got in the cab and heade off towards Bishops Cleeve. Got to Cheltenham race course ( about 4 miles ) before I realised what I had done, turned the cab around, went back and.... they were still exactly where I left them. Reason I got so excited was among the couple of 100 reggae and Motown things I had found some nice Uk stuff and a red issue of Dena Barnes!!!!!!! Happy days.
Soulsmith Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 My mate Rids left his record box upstairs at the coffee shop opp 100 club, whilst we all retreated downstairs to the basement. Not too sure who recovered it - maybe JT, if not his mates. Take a bow. Cheers col
Soulsmith Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I hope this makes you smile. Couple of years back I had my car broken into & lost all my cds (amongst other things) Guys at work were less than supportive - "Col, when they find out what a crock of shite they've stolen they'l dump it at the top of the road." 2 hours later I received a call frpm the police "Mr. Smith, good news we've found you're CDs".... you guess where they were dumped?
Guest Byrney Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Any more of thoose nightmare- record stories around?? link Djed with Jumping Joan in the leafy hamlet of Alfreton back in the early 90s. Bit of a scuffle happened which Joan and I almost ended up in. We got out of there intact minus a number of 70s 80s twelves I had including Terry Callier on Erect, Webster Lewis and a Timi yuro LP. Put the feelers out as I know a few lads in Alftreton, unfortunately came back with zilch. Live and learn and all that

Happy days. link What? You left them unattended within two minutes of my flat? Foooooooolish boy! BTW great to see you and a nice surprise! Hippo. (Having missed the post from Kev saying he was coming home for the first time in years, you can imagine my surprise when doing a completely non-NS disco I played a bit of Motown -as you do, looking for the odd one who knows how to dance - only this time, I thought "I know that girl's dancing style - but she and Kev are in Canada!" . Little did I know!) Edited September 10, 2005 by Jerry Hipkiss
