macca
I was ploughing through manship's rarest of the rare tonight & I came across this. now, my question is, is it really that hard to find? by all accounts, it was a nationwide R&B hit in 1965, more or less defining the go-go craze at that time. it reminds me of john vincent for some reason... macca Link to comment Social source share

Not too sure about it being a hit though? His other one MC Twine sold reasonably well locally in Detroit on the back of his Rockabilly hits, but I don't think "Baby....." did much at all. Even Matt hasn't got any left. If anyone has one for sale I'd be interested. Regards, Dave https://www.hitsvillesoulclub.com/ Link to comment Social source share
macca
found this link. scroll down to go-go... https://www.black-music-collectors.com/funk...oGo_Lexicon.htm and a history of go-go in french. not that I understand it, but it looks like they're saying the same thing. the bit about whites in washington calling it 'junkyard' is interesting. seems like the defining sounds of go-go were the smokey robinson & the miracles, butch baker &... matt lucas. he must've shifted some copies then? https://www.goodka.com/menu/histoireGogo.htm macca Link to comment Social source share

We at Hitsville are preparing a full article on him and his time in Detroit with the likes of John Rhys, Ollie McLoughlin, The Volumes, Shades of Blue, Jamerson, The Charmaines etc etc. Should be out around end of October. We are also preparing a website for his personal use that you will be able to contact him and even buy some of his unissued stuff hopefully. Matt Lucas is best known for his Rockabilly product. He is massive in Scandanavia where they have a big Rockabilly/Blues following. He also plays the Rock n Roll festival circuit in UK where he is at the moment. If you're interested in his non soul stuff, check out: https://www.rockabillyhall.com/MattLucas.html Regards, Dave https://www.hitsvillesoulclub.com/ Link to comment Social source share
