Guest in town Mikey Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I have seen occasionally guys chasing certain records and then a year or so down the line floging them again. It makes me think that people who move records on at a steady rate actually have absolutley no respect for what they have in their possesion.
Guest James Trouble Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 (edited) What, like shagging around shows a desrespect for woman? Oooh, that Mikey from Wales, he's been chasing that bird from Liverpool for months, and when he finally gets his hands on her he dumps her the next day because he's got his eye on the busty blond from Essex! But i know a lot of people who are chasing there dream record, what ever that might be ! Buying and selling there way to it is the only way most people can afford to do it.

It makes me think that people who move records on at a steady rate actually have absolutley no respect for what they have in their possesion. link I've known people who do it within a matter of weeks. That ain't collecting to me its swapping Makes it very easy to say - 'Ive had it in the past' or 'Used to play that years ago' Suppose some DJs like to constantly play new sets, so can understand that to a point, and some collectors will by on a whim, and then decide they want something else more so have to sell it on. Mind you, there's always the allniter purchase that sounded great through some cheap headphones at 4.30 a.m. but sounds absolute shite at midday the next day.... Edited August 23, 2005 by Mace
Guest Dan Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 agree mikey to an extent but then you are a bit strange you've been collecting and buying blind for years without even having a record player haven't you? that's what i call dedication!

I think these people should be drummed out of allnighters and have rotten fruit thrown at them.

And i will continue to do so. I just will never learn
Bitchdj Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 ooh mace we have all bought such an awful record at 4am ..the trouble is now i am on my 3rd collection i just cant afford to collect anymore...when i occasionally dj the punters would not be happy if i just churned out the same old records week in week out...( unlike some i could mention )....to get what i want sumtimes takes months of careful planning..buying a thing to sell etc..but some times its just the fact that the longed for article just doesnt hold the affection it had in my mind ...so off it goes and its on to the next one..its an addiction,...nay an illness

It makes me think that people who move records on at a steady rate actually have absolutley no respect for what they have in their possesion. link Not sure about respect, probably a lack of appreciation. The scene always has had people who have turned over records in quick succession, particularly the big ticket numbers or the ‘in’ sound of that month. DJ have always had a prolific turn over of stuff, to keep sets fresh, but I do agree there does seem to be a few people who appear to want whatever they been told to want and then sell it to get the next ‘want’ I think twenty five plus years ago there were few big money records and significantly less collectors and dealers to be interested in buying and selling such records. Nowadays, there must be fifty fold the numbers and so the ‘must have’ mentality and subsequent attaining, and then moving on, is now amplified significantly. There seems to be thousands of four figure records now and so it may seem that so-and-so has a copy of some expensive sound one month and not the next, as they’ve let it go to buy another over-price bit of vinyl. Despite what people would like to portray, there ain’t that many rich people on the scene, well not after someone grassed them up to the tax man!! (Top tip: if you’ve got cash to splash, send your wants list out in the spring, when the tax demand start coming through letter boxes!) Aside, Seven Day Lover was reputed to be the first £100 record (? To Ovenchip?), any ideas what was the first £1000 platter?
