Hi all

Putting together a CD for my girlfriend who is, much to my amazement, really getting into soul music. Trouble is, it's very hard to predict what she likes. Generally the fast stompers do nothing for her and she's well versed in Motown. What really seems to float her boat are what I can only call the commercial end of deep soul (contradiction in terms I know). Think of Betty's "let me down easy" or Lorraine's "Stay with me baby".

Just wondered if anyone had any further suggestions along these lines for a CD comp to draw her a little more in? She's heard all the Dave Godin comps and likes about 50% of them.

Thanks in advance!

Colin

Matter of fact that's one of the few gebuine northern sounds that she really grooves on! Something to do with the drums, she says!

But you can't fail with this :

-Marion Love - Can't Forget About You Baby

link

Soulsmith - thanks for that clip - havent theard that in yonks

dayo - my missus is the same but i went with the blitzkreig treatment - play everything you have and something will stick

try candi statons - too hurt to cry - (soulclub.org has a sample) its slow as a slow thing stuck in mud but by Jaysus is it soulful . smashing.

of the limited mp3's i have on my machine:

carolines - cant stop loving the boy is a big Drama Fest

i concur with the lads Maxine brown is a winner, try - let me give you my loving or - one in a milion

karmello brooks - tell me baby (actually might be a bit fast methinks)

shirley edwards - dream my heart is a mid tempo gem

ahhh theres hundreds that could be candidates for the CD
