Godzilla Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Gonna be in London on Friday night so had a trawl round the net and found a night at 100 Club with the following acts. The Link Quartet, Noel McKoy, Corrina Greyson, Big Joe Louis and DJs Andy Smith and Jazzman Gerald Right up my street but I have to admit I've never been to the venue before. So: 1. is there a cloakroom? - we may have bags with us. 2. dancefloor - slippy or sticky? I've got docs with smooth souls that are so shiny they''re great on even a sticky floor. Want to wear some shoes with a crepe soul though and if the floor isn't slippy they're a bugger to dance in. 3. will it matter or is likely to be that packed at a live band night that we'll just be shuffling a couple of inches from side to side? 4. any other spiffing 100 Club tips? Thanks amigos! Godz

ImberBoy Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 100 Club tips: I'm sure Ady and the regulars can confirm and add to this but here are my tips, Tottenham court Road Tube station is well close and passes some good food places There is good free parking behind the club at The Mews China Town at lunch time do some well cheap food offers and there is a brilliant Indian at the top of Gerard Street called Passage to India The beer prices are a bit top heavy so have a good beer around the corner at The Lantern Pub Take a camera, I'm not sure on the policy but it's better to beg forgiveness than permission and you may snap some glitterati visitors? Don't take your drinks onto the dance floor Look out for Trixter,he is a top bloke and will pass the time of day with you if he is there Have a great time
Guest Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 The dance floor is slippy if they've spilt drinks on it LOL... and beware the peaks and troughs! Oh, and the toilets smell bad.

Guest Ollie Lailey Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I'm sure at this thing on friday night there will be lots of drinking on the dance-floor due the live band(s) so it will be well sticky, innit. There is some excellent graffiti in the gents. Well worth checking out.
Guest Polyvelts Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 The last time I went there for a jazz gig bout a year ago, the tables and chairs were on the dancefloor and the area where the tables and chairs usually are (at allniters) was clear . It was like being in a weird parallel universe and totally FREAKED ME OUT !!!!!
Simsy Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Want to wear some shoes with a crepe soul though and if the floor isn't slippy they're a bugger to dance in. People say these shoes are crepe, but I think they're very good. It is a very expensive bar as Mr Tabulations has said. However the hand dryer in the Gents would bring a smile to the face of James Dyson!
Ady Croasdell Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) Hey Godz, I might well be down there, depending on how wrecked I get at KGF tonight. If you can recognise me from my 80 years ago avatar say hello. Apparently my mate Big Joe Louis is on at 8 and he's great so get there early! Funnily enough Trickster is DJing up the road at a do that ex Northern Soul DJ Keb Darge is also playing at so if you need some further out music check that out, I think the details are on FaceBook, but I can't work it very well Ady Edited January 13, 2011 by ady croasdell
Ady Croasdell Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 And a pint is £4. True, and it's OTT but at least you can get a pint rather than have to buy two half pint bottles at £3 each like in t'other clubs.
Godzilla Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Hey Godz, I might well be down there, depending on how wrecked I get at KGF tonight. If you can recognise me from my 80 years ago avatar say hello. Apparently my mate Big Joe Louis is on at 8 and he's great so get there early! Funnily enough Trickster is DJing up the road at a do that ex Northern Soul DJ Keb Darge is also playing at so if you need some further out music check that out, I think the details are on FaceBook, but I can't work it very well Ady Sorry mate - didn't see your post as we'd already set off. Ta for the info though - although we would have been unlikely to get involved in the extra curricular activities. We were pretty pooped after a hectic couple of days and I had an ear infection in both ears. We'd booked to see War Horse for Mrs G's birthday months ago and then found out KGF were playing last month and had already booked hotel and travel with good deals. Couldn't swap for matinee tickets either unfortunately. Damn. Anyway, as we didn't see your advice we didn't realise that live acts start early there. We got there in time to catch Link Quartet though, and Corinna Greyson, so although we missed Big Joe Louis we caught him join her for Go Go Train I saw you standing by the door and smiled a couple of times but didn't introduce myself as, embarrassingly, due to the dodgy ears I was able to hear bands but conversation in pubs and clubs was just about impossible. Even Mrs G finally accepted that I wasn't deliberately ignoring her and she had some good sport by mouthing complicated insults at me. Despite this we had a great time and, having done a large part of my growing up attending music venues of between 200/400 capacity, I felt immediately at home. The upshot is that we're definitely going to get to the one of the 100 Club allnighters in the near future and next time will be sure to say hello. Meanwhile, I'd just like to say to folks on here: If you get the chance - See Corrina Greyson! Godz
