Hello Russ,

Think it was Ady Pountain that first turned it up a while back - no doubt someone will correct me. Not sure whether he played it out or not tho. Dave then turned up some (5?) copies via Joe himself recently and dished em out to Ion, Butch, Andy and A N Other, presumably keeping one for himself. Great record. I think there's quite a queue for the next one!

Great to see you at Radcliffe mate. See you soon.

Great to see you at Radcliffe mate. See you soon.

First found it at Joe Quarterman's house, found three copies, sold one to Dave Greet, Butch and kept one, Butch and I first played it at Bamberg. A few months later Ady found one at the Bristol record fair, looking through a box just ahead of Malayka (think the box was Spacehoppers). Later Joe found me a couple more with relatives, these went to Andy and Ion. That's seems to be all that have turned up.

Joe told me, the record was withdrawn from release and all the copies distroyed, after he had an argument with the late owner of the label. He grab a few copies as he walked out of the offices of Ru-Jac, but it's fair to say he must have patched things up, as he produced things later for the label. I spoke to Winfield Parker about it, who now ownes all the master tapes and he told me the record didn't exist and he didn't have a tape for it. Interestingly it has no catalog number on the record label and doesn't appear in most discogs for the label.

Spoke to Joe only a few weeks ago and he tells me he has no more. He says he has looked everywhere and asked everyone in the family, with no joy. So don't know where else to look for it, don't think it every made it out to local dj's

Quite right Dave, but she was actually at the other end of the room! It also stops Marc saying they all came from the same source. I'm still amazed no one has mentioned the other side which is full on 100% All-Nighter Music which I did play at Lifeline some time ago. Russ would have a fit! Cheers, Ady

Hi Ady,

I have to agree. Dave played the 'Nobody Beats My Love' and I really liked it. But when he played the uptempo side it completely blew me away - pure Paul Sindab on steroids!

All best

There was one through EBay last year, or perhaps the year before, I forget the exact timing - there was virtually no interest - I dont know who won it, but alas I do know who was second .................sad.gif

Best of luck in your search !

actually I was only aware of all the copies that came thru Dave...Knew (from Dave) you had one too but always thought yours did like the others also come via Dave. But this your record find story is brilliant I must admit! Just imagining now the look on your face the moment you found the record while going thru a box.

...and it leaves a little bit of hope that there ar still (more) copies around waiting to be found.

Just when you think all the 'great' traditional NS Dancers may have been found ............this turns up & alongside other recent discoveries like The Royal Imperials & some of the funky thangs gaining needle time & exceptance on dancefloors it gladdens my heart to think that after all these years folk are still digging for the tunes & the dancers are still dancing to em..........this is what a propper NS scene should be about................ .

Anyhoo wheres my copy then.........anyone ???

Out of interest, this one had been known for quite some time, it was / is just only s**t rare isn`t it ? Did sound top notch though when Butch played it at the Hip City last summer!

Has anyone ever again heard anything about the whereabouts of the reel master tape which contained unreleased takes of this record ? Curious to know what happend to this and wether one day those takes will appear on a new release ... ?

Pretty sure this was a copy of the master tape, in fact I think there were two tapes, so strictly speaking whoever bought this doesnt automatically gain the rights to legally release it, unless they go through the usual channels.

right, but if memory serves me correct the tapes came from the producer so there was / is a chance contact could have been made to negotiate. Didn`t see a second tape though. Would love to hear the other versions..hence me asking

Yes Andy Killick has been playing it for ages and theres been a muffed copy floating about for while, all before the ebay copies. Plus its been on rarest of the rare for about four or so years. Agree, amazing rare northern, and the flip is great group soul too. The other stuff on the label isn't that hot unfortunatley, though I think Benny Scott has had plays on the mod scene in the past.

Vandalettes would be good but suffers from poor vocals.

Love this to pieces!!!! first time I heard it through refo-soul it went straight into my "wants"...until I knew how mega-rare it is....I will keep playing the lottery and praying that some of the fortunate owners are ready to part with one (to be honest...they shouldn´t!!!!)!!!, Rare soul cannot get much better than this IMO
