Hi Guys,

Been in the loft as I'm now collecting again.

Found plenty of old re-issues that I'm not interested in but among these are a few that I'm not sure about & just want to confirm they are not origs before I offload them for pennies.

So here goes......

Joe Matthews Ain't Nothing You Can Do on Kool Kat KK-1001 in the dead wax KK1001-127261

Terrible Tom We Were Made For Each Other Maverick MA1001 in the dead wax MA1001

Coasters Crazy Baby ATCO in the dead was 65C-9291-1

Are there any dead give aways as to if they are originals or re-issues?

Must admit, my feeling is they are re-issues because of the lot I found them with (my main collection was kept well away).

Many thanks for any help in advance.

Aid.

Can help with the Joe............if its vinyl as opposed to styrene then its a boot Issue or demo

Cheers Smudge that's helpfull The Joe Matthews looks like a re-issue then as looks like vinyl with a moulded on label.

I'm guessing the Terrible Tom is a re-issue as just checked an old manship guide & my copy has no b side, as sure sign of a re-issue I'd say??.

That leaves The Coasters, now this looks interesting, think this could be an original Delta code reads 65C ('C' Looks like an' L') - 9291 - 1 I'm optimistic about this one.

Anyone like to throw water on my optimism?

Thanks guys.

Thanks rupert, just seen yr post.

It has that delta number in the dead wax, I reckon it's a paper label moulded onto vinyl as I wouldn't be able to peel it with my nails but the label is printed paper (if all that makes any sense).

Me thinks it's original, Yeahhh!! (although I could be wrong ;-).

Doubt if it's original I'm afraid - there's a styrene boot and a vinyl one, both are extremely good, there's a full topic on here about this record if anyone can find it. If I had a quid for every one of these I've been offered as original, I'd have about 10 quid now...a delta number is a five or six digit number preceeded by a triangle by the way.

Okay Pete, It'll be going on my pile of re-issues to get rid of then.

To be honest, I had an idea they were all re-issues cos they'e been in the loft for over thirty years & they were put of of the way in the old days because I didn't want them.

Although, I found a Don Varner boot on Quinvy in that lot, I got ripped at the bar in Wigan & paid a weeks wage, not knowing that the black & white copy was a boot, i remember the smile on the guys face as he took my money (guy called Lewey or lewis), I was only a kid & had a lot to learn then.

p.s, I think I meant to quote the Matrix numbers on the dead wax then, I believe the Delta number id's what year they were made if my memory serves, is that right?

Anyway, thanks for the imput.

If it looks like an "L" in instead of a "C" then it is definitely a bootleg.

The "C" on the original is very distinct and can't be mistaken for being an "L".

From Warrington or Runcorn - very thin lad, big mate of Keith Minshull?

Yeah Pete, that the very same one, Lewey from Runcorn, small & thin with black hair.

His was big mates with a few of the dj's including Dickie Searling, the thing was, he always had a box full of real gems, real big sounds, so I didn't think twice.

Live & learn eh!

Cheers

Aid,

P.s, got to say some of my mates had a laugh over it in the following years, one lives in London now & I only see him at Christmas, & first thing he calls me every time is 'Don Varner', he he. time is a great healer.

I'm pretty sure & happy they are all boots/re-issues, just didn't want to off load any originals.

Also found a 7 Dwafts, but I know it's a boot cos I know I didn't hand out the kind of money it would have taken back in the day, I would certainly have known if I had done.

Looks like they did a good job on the boot though, bet that could pass for an original.

Some of the re-issues were shocking copies, I found an Ellingtons 'Destined to BECOME a loser' on Castle, but they called it 'Destined to BE a loser', couldn't even spell the name of the song right, shoddy work that!

Hi Brian.

Sorry mate, I've already promised them to a mate of mine.

Only the reissues & boots mind mostly junk to be honest, I always kept my treasures (one mans treasures is another mans junk I suppose) apart.

Although I started buying again, just got my eye on a few this evening, fingers crossed the auto-bidder doesn't max out on my set prices, it's got me some bargains lately, lovely piece of software that.

Cheers

Aid.
