After work yesterday morning I was walking through Kings Walk shopping center in Gloucester when a tune came into my head..."Competition ain't nothing". Funny, I thought, why did I think of that? Then it dawned on me that it was coming from outside my (admittedly very small) brain  , in fact it was coming over the small speakers that usually pump out muzak. Not beleiving what I was hearing, I waited for a minute, and was then treated to P.P. Arnold "Everything's gonna be alright", followed by Leon Haywoods "Baby Reconsider"!

So who's behind it? An old Gloucester Torch-ite? Whatever, it did make me smile thinking of our "underground" scene!

Perhaps it was coming from one of the many Smock or welly boot shops, Hippo. Its Gloucester style sumliminal messaging based on the age old selling technique applied to difficult customers. (well competition in the all white smock market in Gloucester is fierce)

That thar Competition B'iant Nothing my lover.

Evryfin's gonna be oroite

'ere baby!! reconsider!!

I had a similar experience in Waltham Cross the other week  Totally soul less place (unlike Gloucester), and in the mall out blast these n.s. classics. Can only assume someone is supplying these "malls" with CD's of "norvern" material. Still can't complain can we......

I'd complain. Their music policy is obviously slanted towards oldies & is a total mis-represenation of todays scene.......yap, yap yap.

Does seem to be happening more, know a few of the trendy bars round here (not that I frequent them often) had the KFC 60s Soul Mix CD on when it came out last year. Amazing how good some of these tracks that you probably wouldn't normally listen to sound in the midst of the usual pub/shop musak (especially when you've had a few  )

I don't care for this sort of thing. I feel it cheapens our music. Rare and underground is what I prefer. Same reason I hated those KFC ads with a purple passion.

Mr Angry,

I kinda agree, but like Rachel says, when you've had a few drinks, and Laura Green comes on in a place where you'd be expecting to hear Girls Aloud or something. Laura doesnt half sound great.

R C A, didnt they release some cracking tunes hey?

If I can interupt this love in...

Coming back from a scooter rally in Holand the other week I stopped off at one of those US themed OK Diners on the A1. Walked in to 'The Snake' and walked out, a meal and several cups of coffee later to 'I'm Coming To Your Rescue' having had a couple of other tracks I can't remember now in the meanwhile. Better than the usual pap I suppose

Next time I'm walking through a shopping mall and hear Northern playing, instead of someone selling dodgy watches there'll be a furtive guy selling bootleg singles. Wonder who'd be in the frame for that? blush.gif
