Middleman Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Never really a bad one although memory is a bit vague these days. One that sticks out is Edwin Starr at the Casino, I have no idea when this was though ! Remember taping it and annoying everybody on the train out of Wigan in the morning. Cheers Steve
Guest ritchie Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Talk of the North.... Cleggy gets my vote, it took ages to get there but was always a blast or St Ivo 77

Why Colwyn Bay Webby ? Was it the cheap sparkling wine they uses to sell ? The domino's used to float nicely on top of that !

Soulfool Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Didn't get into Northern Soul, proper, 'til late 1993 so my top three are: 1) Lea Manor Hotel, Albrighton 2nd Allnighter, DJ line-up, music and atmosphere were the best ever. 2) Quayside, Musselburgh 1st Allnighter, top DJ line-up from all over the UK and outstanding venue. 3) Cleethorpes Weekender, Saturday night after the Velvelettes played live, incredible atmosphere. David.

Chalky Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The one single night that stands out for me was the first Chesterfield-Winding Wheel, Ian Clark,Butch,Ady, Thorley,Keb,Guy,plus others. The upstairs room had such an atmosphere, that i thought this is where the scene really starts all over again brilliant night. As for my choice of nighter venue always The Torch hands down. Steve It was a shame the Winding Wheel was closed, it could have been one of the great venues, it had everything going for it, central location, choice of rooms, the top DJ's and a full house. Class venue too and the best venue I've been in. Right now there is nothing to touch Lifeline IMO. The Stafford reunion this year was special. Great to see so many people in a venue dancing and enjoying records many of them probably didn't know. Proves you don't have to hear the same old same and still have a good time
Guest Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Hey up,Malc.....Why was The Torch better than The Casino?? You forgot to add " for you " onto the end of the above question Phil . I enjoyed Wigan , and had many memorable nights there , but in respect of an all - nighter with the ability to put the hairs up on the back of your neck , it has to be The Torch . As I have stated to you before Phil , I was besotted from the first time I stepped into the place , and that feeling is still with me 38 years on ........ and long may it be so . Malc
Guest gordon russell Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Major Lance at the Torch ...best night Sue now that was a night and a half......burnt on my memory an electric night at an already super electric club......as many outside as inside
Mick Howard Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 That old chestnut Webby? Oh well, in for a pound.... 1. Stafford TOTW - early to mid 80's - best & most diverse set of tunes (60's, 70's & 80's) & most knowledgeable collectors/DJ's 2. Allanton Miners Welfare - late 80's - best set of people & greatest fun travelling (Guys coach, Dean's minibus etc.) 3. Peterboro Wirrina/St Ives' Ivo Centre - mid 70's - baggiest trousers & my first all-nighters where I caught the bug MHO only...... Mick

Ian Parker Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 St Ives Nottm Palas Wigan Casino St Ives.... i caught the tail end when i was 15, so with that being my first 'Niter' experience, it will always be my fave. Nottm palais was a wonderful venue, I practically lived there from 78 -82. Casino was intimidating to a 17 yr old, but what an atmosphere !!! My fave night for me is a toss between seeing Curtis Mayfield at Alfreton and the Ric Tic revue . ( The Torch 25th anniv at Kings hall was quite special too) IAN

Guest rennie Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Wigan early 1970's... nothing since has even come close Spot on... Always remember The Exciters live singing Reaching for the Best & Blowing up my mind...WHAT A NIGHT... The scene was so alive & full of excitement then..Always breaking in new sounds... "Pushing the boundries" Everything since Wigan is like a house party...OK to start with...nice to see a few mates etc...but theres no real ...VA VA VOOM... Nice to go to Prestatyn for a weekend break after the long winters.....but the All-nighters are Soooo "Oldies" orientated. Pick of the bunch now has to be Lifeline....
Guest JIM BARRY Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 my first night at the casino was mind blowing.....in later years the manchester ritz rarest of the rare...to hear all those mega tunes in one night...un beatable.

Crikey I could go on forever about how certain nighters did it & still do it for me but the title says best nighter ever so that made me think one choice that i class my BEST nighter EVER. Fair enough to those who have listed a number but try stick your neck out & say one if that's what Webby's question meant, which I believe it did x Edited December 15, 2010 by Alison H
Wilxy Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Have been to many from 1974 on, and had some great times but........IMHO Wigan Casino takes the overall plaudits on my behalf
Guest Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Can't choose from 3 soul nighters I currently love but back in the day I had a nighter in Shepherds Bush that took in a 'rockin' do' at the Pheonix in Oxford Circus and ended up at a squat in the Bush... best laugh, dance, everything else I ever had Timewise must have been 1984.
