bought a few last year whilst in an ebay trance, witches and warlock, cant remember the title, because id heard the name mentioned in the past, a dirge on soul city by al wilson which i hadnt heard , but knew the title of but my god is it shite, and peggy scott and jo jo benson which i vaguely remember hearing dave evison play at keele, except it wasnt the one he played.picking wild mountain berries was what i bought, and sank into a despairing hunch as i heard the first few bars.

Talking of frisbee sounds, there where 4 of us in the street where I lived in the early 70s, that used to buy soul packs etc.

Any way across from one of the lads house there was (still is) a disused factory with a big yard.

So all the rejects used to get throw against the factory wall, at one time there was quite a pile of broken records.laugh.gif

Sam used to play this a lot......The same fella that played the wonderful 'Music' by D-Train....

I'm sure this is a harpsichord instrumental on a white label.....I'm sure it was booted as well  yes the harpsichord skip is filling up fast. What was the instrumental on Sound Stage 7.........ah Suzys Serenade.Sounds like Rolf Harris having an eppy on his stylophone.

Not to everyones' taste I admit , but " SS " was definately a record of its' time , and when it was first played , it filled the floor .

If we are talking shy - ite , look no further than " Esperanto " ..........

Are you people saying your tastes have changed, the records mentioned are suddenly bad or that they are just not to be considered 'proper northern' anymore?

I like all the records I've ever bought (except some that came in bulk lots) not sure I'd play them all out, but if they were good records when I bought them they're good records now (Including many of the ones listed here )

Yes I remember buying "Suzy's Serenade" circa 72 or 73 didn't think is was crap at the time.

One I remember buying in 75, and getting it home and thinking WTF have I bought this...

Frank Lyndon "Don't Go Away Baby" it didn't sound good at home.

There is more it is just remembering them, after trying hard to forget them.laugh.gif

So you know what to look for when you are desperate for an Original (post-listen)....................or if you have the Antellects I'll do you a straight swap.:thumbsup:yes.gifyes.gif

Link to youtube while refosoul is out of action.

You'll note that the guy who put this on youtube says (and I quote)....

"I'm probably going to get some abuse for posting this on here".....such is the high esteem in which the GPC are held!!!!!

Best described perhaps as a cross between Tubular Bells and Hawaii Five-0!!!

Had a listen and I think I can live out rest of my life without owning one.thumbsup.gif

I'm with you on this one although I would go further.....we have some seriously quirky records under the Northern Soul banner (and I confess to liking a fair few of them) but of all this is the one that foxes me in terms of how it ever got through the net...........it's neither Soul, Northern Soul, Northern Dance or even Dance music..........it is absoulte tripe in every department.....pure, unadulterated cack!!!:yes:  :D:yes::Dyes.gif:D:lol::P:D:yes:

lol- another which I never bought was Kennard- the line in that one was 'I saw a man kicking a cat- what's the point of that!'- love to see records like that as it brings a bit of humour to the scene!

Found an issue Esperanto in Sue Ryder Charity shop in Spalding, Lincs (1984ish). Asked em "How much?" 50p. Only had 13p on me. That'll do! Swapped for Black RCA Rose Valentine the following week.

Crappiest record tho goes to "Are You Lonely For Me Baby" R L Griffen. Black Echoes Inside page recommendation . The next Roy Dawson!!?

Nice company sleeve.

I must admit a bought this back in the day, it looked nice next to The Anderson Brothers.yes.gif

Off hand I can't recall having any more GSF demos I think everthing else I had on the label where stockers.

Flippin heck every record thats getting slated on here I've got in my collection. Demo's as well. Think I need to re-evaluate laughs...

And if you think I'm coming on here, telling the whole world my sordid little guilty secrets, you're sadly mistaken.

Look it was 1979.

I was on the run from Approved School.

I had a moustache.

It was only The Newbeats "Don't Turn Me Loose".

On a white demo for £4.

Mint.

I'll never forgive Dave Withers for making me buy that. Never.

I keep the record outside in a shed at the bottom of the garden.

It never shares company with my other records.

My head is permanently hung in shame.

Please forgive me oh Lord.

derek

And another thing - even to this day I can't bring myself to even play it, just to remind myself how bad I remember it to be. And that's true.

And here's another truth.

I'm so guilty I haven't even included said record on my record collection database.

Now that is guilt of a major kind.

Paid £500 for Chico Holliday's "Follow The Sun" on Meadowbrook back in 1992 , as a one off from Anglo-American , almost 3 weeks wages at the time. Andy Dyson , who worked there at the time , was vigourously shaking his head attempting to put me off the "45" , how i wish i'd listened to him at the time. I've since bought it off e-bay for £4 plus p+p , to consolidate what a twat i was. Tim must have been cart-wheeling all over Todmorden aftder i'd gone. Talk about a fool and their money. . . both copies sit there in my collection like open wounds . . . utter shit of the highest order !!
