Came across this a few weeks ago in the states, it's a four track e.p. from 1974, produced by none other than Eddie Singleton. Comes with two passable dance tracks, one uptempo funky thing, the other a sixties style midtempo dancer. Vocal style is very breathy, actress, but not that bad. Cool gated hard cardboard sleeve.

Anyone else ever come across this, would put up sound files, but no Refro.

Nice one, picture reminds me of the Playboy centerfold she once did (not that I saw it myself, been told about it *cough*)

I know she did a 45 on Epic that fetches quite some money. More in a Popcorn/Mod thing I recall...

Hi Benji

It's a funky sleeve, have sound clips of the better tracks on my site, will put them on here when the Refro is working again.

It's "Know What I Mean" on Epic, Benji. I remember Mik Parry putting me on to it. Wonder what he's up to these days?

There are at least three: Dark Side of the Moon, Americana and Uhura Sings. There's a CD that I remember being reviewed in Record Collector mag some years ago - Out of This World or something like that. but I can't remember if it's a comp pulled from those albums or a straight reissue. I think it did include the Epic 45

The flip of this is a cover of Mark Murphy's "Why don't you do right", unfortunately it's spectacularly bad

That song's from the 30s - a bit earlier than the Mark Murphy cut. Originally called A Weed Smokers Dream I believe...

...although I think the first version to use the lyrics that we all know is Peggy Lee's fabulous cut from c. 1942 with the Benny Goodman Orchestra:

No versions out there to beat Big Mike Gordon's though!

Amazing! - I've got that New York Notables LP somewhere. Bought it from Cassady's Records in York in the late 80s, along with an Ace comp called Struttin' at the Bronze Peacock. Some cracking tracks on those albums - must dig them out

Funny how i can remember things like that, but you ask where I just put me glasses....

Gets a few plays in mainland Europe .. Damien Lapeyre spins it also.. I bought a minty demo from Fingers fairly recently; didn't get that lovely pic sleeve mind..

Gav Needham been playing 'know what I mean' for years. Think joe dutton might have one. Big on the mod scene for a while, probably due to Mik Parry, but a tough one to find.

Great record I think
