Godzilla Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 ok here's my dilemma: There's a 45 that i desperately want. Copies turn up now and again and they don't go for an awful lot of cash. So far, so normal. The problem is that the record is hardly, if ever, mentioned on this or other forums. I've also had it saved in my ebay searches for over six months now but not a sniff. The problem is that I can only assume that the reason it's not discussed is that it's not at all well known. I'm sure that if more people were aware loads of people would be raving about it and it would be in the wants and play lists of many others. So: If I post a want, people on here will research, listen and - I'm confident - the demand would zoom. My other alternative is to just be patient and wait. But I just NEED it. Actually I think I've just answered my own question and I have to keep it to myself for now. Thanks for sharing my anguish though

boba Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I think you should not ask as I've found the success rate on obscure wants here is pretty low anyways

Keep looking, patience is the most important thing when collecting records.
Dylan Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 you can send me a PM if you want 6 months without a copy on ebay isn't all that long in the scheme of things....... one will turn up just make sure you don't try and get it too cheap with a low bid. If you realy want it then bid accordingly.

I'll definitely bid over double what it's previously sold for though. Six months is too long when you get the bug - as you all know all to well.
Larsc Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Six months is nothing. Keep looking. I need to upgrade a record I have that I can't discuss because it is clearly too obscure. Only copy I have ever heard of is my own. And it's too cool to keep to myself so I really need to find a better copy so I can talk about it. Been looking for a couple of years now... Only copy I have ever heard of is my own. And it's too cool to keep to myself so I really need to find a better copy so I can talk about it. Been looking for a couple of years now... You're right, six months is not long. To be precise though, I've wanted it a while longer but only got round to making it a saved search when it became obvious that I wasn't going bump into casually. By the time I registered the search I'd missed two on ebay - even though there hadn't been any for a couple of years before. They went cheaply too. Entirely my fault of course. Good luck with your search Lars
Dylan Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 and you know once you finally get a copy that 2 days later another will appear much cheaper.
Dylan Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I had something very similar to this happen to me probably about 4 weeks ago now. I collected the bobby / neal kimble 45s as I don't think he made a bad one but the fat fish release "working out your bag" always eluded me. anyway finally got one off ebay for 10 bucks and I was the only bidder. I expected at least some other bids but luck was on my side. not been quite so lucky since though been getting outbid on practically everything.
Dave Abbott Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Doesn't bother me, i've already got it...but in your shoes i wouldn't put a want up - i hardly ever do
Godzilla Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Doesn't bother me, i've already got it... Three guesses then Dave?

KevH Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Three guesses then Dave? Put up a "Want" after you've snagged it.See what responses you get then. All good fun.
Dave Abbott Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Three guesses then Dave? Ahh; now you tell me and i'll let you know if you're right
Guest Bearsy Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Godz, if its rare it must be shit so no one will actually want it except a few record dealers and up their own arses djs that might dare to risk playing something different from the norm so i would just put a want up it surely could never become popular could it

That's a top idea kev and I'm going to do exactly that - but I'll mix it up with some general wants to see if anyone spots it Ahh; now you tell me and i'll let you know if you're right Godz, if its rare it must be shit so no one will actually want it except a few record dealers and up their own arses djs that might dare to risk playing something different from the norm so i would just put a want up it surely could never become popular could it As for your two - nice try losers Actually I'm in danger of building it up to be something more earthshaking than it really is. In reality it's just a nice tune that has the kind of sound that I'm into these days. Just surprised that it doesn't appear to have be played much. Or maybe Bearsy's right after all and it's crap... Guest aintgotit Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 this thread reminds me of a joke me mum once told me which ends in the punchline, "see yer fucking lawnmower, stick it up yer arse, !" you can probably guess the rest of it.
Dazdakin Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 You gotta tell us all now so we can all laugh at your "new taste" For once i actually think Bearsy might have gotten it bang on!! You gotta laugh!!
