Guest dx052 Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 OK. This is my first post so please be gentle. Hope its in the right place! Hello, I am newish to this genre and time is not my friend with regards to the possible steep learning curve involved when it comes to collecting this music. I want to start collecting some nice CDs Soul/Northern music but I don't want to waste money on dodgy comps (as I can't really afford it) I hope I am not offending anyone regards to looking for CDs as I know there are a lot of people here that are vinyl purist's so I apologize in advance. Just to give you an idea of my taste or lack of It, I bought a couple of compilation from the The Northern Soul Story Vol 1&3 (Twisted Wheel and Blackpool Mecca) and I want to know what is my best direction regards to what might work for me as a casual buyer. just to give you a bit of background about me without boring you to tears, I was never into the scene at the time as I was a bit to young, so my knowledge is from the 70s to present day. i have done my fair share of digging and spent loads of money & having loads of records which took up a lot of room etc, life has changed now & I know my sound when I hear it but done know Northern. I am sure its like most types of music which has sub divisions so I would like pointer to find mine if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Heres a brief list of the tracks that I liked to give you a better idea. Thanks again Tony Middleton - ParisBlues Lynn Randell -Stranger in my arms Susan Barrett - What'sit gonna be Shane Martin - I needyou MVPs - Turnin myheartbeat up Robert Knight -Branded Laura Greene -Moonlight Music ( I know commercial KFC) T.D Valentine - Love Trap Lou Ragland - I travelalone Patti Austin - Didn'tsay a word Van McCoy - SoulImprovisations

Guest Dante Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Essential Northern Soul Story. Title says it all really. https://www.discogs.c.../release/892917 Great tracklist, but the sound quality isn't the best. If you're picky about that, it'll drive you mad.

Beat that! Ian D
