Guest GARV Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Spotted this on yahoo this morning Franklin diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - report Franklin diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - report Enlarge photo The Queen of Soul's health has been under scrutiny since she revealed last week she had undergone "successful" surgery in a hospital in Detroit, Michigan to treat a mystery ailment. She refused to share details about the cause of her illness, but thanked fans for their support after the operation on Thursday. In a statement she said, "The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!" But new reports surfaced on Wednesday suggesting the I Say A Little Prayer hitmaker, 68, has been diagnosed with cancer. A family source allegedly shared the sad news with The Detroit News, while another relative is said to have backed up the claims to the city's Fox 2 News. A spokesperson for Franklin had yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press. However, her pal, Reverend Jesse Jackson, has assured fans the singer is "recovering very well" from the undisclosed surgery, insisting she is on her feet as she recuperates in hospital and that her spirits are "high and her faith is strong". Franklin found herself at the centre of much speculation recently after doctors ordered her to cancel all concert dates and personal appearances scheduled until May, including a Christmas concert in her adopted hometown of Detroit on Thursday.
Bigsoulman Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Sad news if true, it was always my wish that she would perform in the UK but it seems that won't be happening now Lenny

macca Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I've just seen a video on Youtube of her standing in for Pavarotti on an opera piece and it's simply awesome. What a voice... Like Levi Stubbs, she'sof the calibre we'll never see the likes of again. Bless her...
Sean Hampsey Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Have been following this story for a few months. Ever since she cancelled her gig in New York in August this year, that Tats and I were supposed to be attending. Let's say a little prayer that she comes through, and long live the Queen. Sean
Guest Paul Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 ...Let's say a little prayer that she comes through, and long live the Queen. Yes let's pray that she'll come through this. Paul

Sunnysoul Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) We've had a few threads over the years here on Soul Source about who is/was the greatest male and female soul/RnB vocalists. While the jury remains out on the the male side , on the female side Aretha is way out ahead of the rest, no question, with only Gladys Knight in the same stratosphere. and then a slew of well respected songstresses like Betty Harris, Doris Duke ... Well, actually, as far as the guys are concerned, no doubt in my mind either, said it before , and I''ll say it again, David Ruffin was the greatest. Edited December 10, 2010 by sunnysoul
jocko Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Desparately sad news, although not confirmed by family, there have been rumours kicking around for a while, would love to hope they are only rumours. My 40th treat was to go and see her live in the states, she was ovbiously no where near her best, but there were a couple of occassions, especially the finale which me realise why I love her music so much, simply the greatest for me, and worth every bit of the trek to see her. I really hope there is at least one recovery in there for her, I think I will have a weekend of Retha, celebrate her life and toast to her health and hope it works.

Many have a different number 1....... Bill board voted Linda Jones number 1, read/ heard that someplace the last 12 months... A pretty good call.... If any can find past threads then i and others would be interested in that... These types of thread are just the ticket for Sunday nights.... Will keep this topic on Lady Franklin... Will keep an eye out for any updates...
Larry Semmins Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Huge relief https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/14/aretha-franklin-i-never-had-cancer_n_809007.html Get well soon Aretha. Steve
Djmelismo Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Read in my local paper that Aretha is doing fine and soon will start performing live again, there´s also a new album in the pipeline featuring collaborations with for instance R. Kelly.
Bigsoulman Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 That's great news and I'm glad as we have lost far too many soul stars of late, have to say though that on the TV last week she looked very gaunt and a hell of a lot thinner than she was before, I personally think she has had weight surgery but hope she is back and singing again soon, also she had been under going therapy for fear of flying so we can only hope she can make it to the UK soon.

The 68-year-old - who also has plans to release a new album - will perform at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Buffalo, New York on 28 May. Last November Franklin cancelled all concerts and public appearances for six months under doctor's orders. The following month she had what she described as "more than minor surgery". Since then the "queen of soul" has revamped her diet and lost weight. "I want to not only maintain the weight I am at now, but better it by one dress size," she told the Associated Press news agency. In January she told US magazine Jet that she was "feeling great" and her medical condition had been resolved. Last weekend saw Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch and others perform a tribute to Franklin at this year's Grammy awards.
Guest Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Hooray! Gr8 news indeed. Spent last couple of weeks having an "Aretha" half hour, spoilt 4 choice there then Decided "I Can't See Myself Leaving You" (quite apt) as my/our fave choon from The Queen Even her early UK output prior to Atlantic was classy stuff but then Arif Mardin gotta hold and the rest is history
Guest Dante Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Yep, the opening post news seem a bit old. She went through surgery in december, but it was successful, so it seems she's doing alright. In any case, here's hoping she stays well and fit...
