Guest Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Hi just a quick one, scenario I want to sell a record(s) on soulsource and someone has the same record(s) same condition etc already on there, my price will be half the other sellers price do I wait for a few days so it dosent effect the other sellers sale or stick it on at the same time. Im not a dealer and only sell to fund other wants so making a profit is not my reason for selling though I do understand some sellers are dealers and its a buisness and they need to keep things ticking over Kieran

pikeys dog Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 So long as you don't link to the other sellers sales page, then it's a case of list away, IMO. The other sellers could be massively overpriced and never sell, why should you have to wait and 'give them a chance' - if they priced them competitively thay would fly out anyway.
Pete S Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I don't think you should be allowed on here for referring to the site as "The Source".
Reg Scott Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 List away Kieran, it's an open market so get listing. The only no no is to refer to the other seller's item in comparison to your own. It's very gentlemenly of you to even ask btw!
Steve L Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 List it straight away IMO Never works for me though having rock bottom prices
Guest Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I think waiting a day should be cool and nobodys going to get too upset Cheers Kieran
Mrtag Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I think waiting a day should be cool and nobodys going to get too upset Cheers Kieran A True Gent ! ! Not Many Of Us Left !!

Little-stevie Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Just list away... Its a site for all.. A gent and selling records at rock bottom prices .... My kind of guy More gents please and rock bottom prices... Time are hard...
Dean Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Gentleman my A***, good marketing maybe . Apologies in advance Keiran, meant in humour, sure you really are a gent.
Guest Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Gentleman my A***, good marketing maybe . Apologies in advance Keiran, meant in humour, sure you really are a gent. neh drams theres alot of people on here selling records at decent prices and dropping them even still if asked, recently bought a couple of records on here at bargain prices (thanksBrian) like said before times are hard and no doubt record buying strings are pulled in a bit so like myself I need a bargain to feed the habit thankfully theres some like minded guys and gals out there in soul-land , fick me violins will be out soon Goodluck Kieran
Prophonics 2029 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I do try and put a list up of stuff that has not been for sale for a week or even longer but I don't see what harm it can do, collapse of the Northern Soul record market maybe for under pricing of one record
Dylan Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 To be honest there is so much stuff listed on here I wouldn't even know if things I have listed for sale have been on otger lists or not in a similar time frame. and its pretty common to see one copy of a record doing well on ebay bringing out another or even a few more.

Always a good thing to have a sniff around at previous prices though.See which way the wind is blowing, when selling and buying. You are right though Dylan, one good sale brings out the rest,so you have to be quick. Imo i think listing a record for sale cheaper ,obviously on the back of another thats still "live",is a bit naughty. But its not an actual science we are dealing with,so mistakes happen.

Even had one sale scuppered with questions over the price ... only to find the same dealer selling the record in question a few days later at a higher price than they quoted in my sale. with that in mind .... stick it up whenever you like and good luck with the sale

If I'm wrong I apologise in advance.
John Reed Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) I don't think people should care if they want to list a record on here, cheaper than someone has already recently posted. The sale value of a record depends on many things including how much the seller paid for it and the minimum they'd let it go for or if its a firesale and the seller needs the cash. If you walk down the road and see a shop selling a toaster you're interested in for £100 and the shop a couple of doors down is selling the same on for £90 would you go back to the first shop and buy it there as you saw it first? The seller of the cheaper toaster wins. It's an open market (and an open forum), as long as you don't bad mouth the other seller, saying its chaper that then his/hers, post it up. boba Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I wonder if the same dilemma would exist if you had wanted to list an item for more instead of less. I think you should go ahead and list an item at a fair price and that if another seller has it too high that's their problem. I don't see why the etiquette of the board should favor gouging people.
Shsdave Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Hmmm difficult one. Somebody on here had a record for auction & it was a fair amount of dosh, I had a copy that i wanted rid of. Trouble was the auction didn't finish for a month, so I decided to wait until auction was over. Just didn't think it was on to compete especially as i wasn't aware of price until I saw the auction so I put it back in the box. When the auction was over I put it up for sale & it was snapped up pretty quickly......................................problem was by now I couldn't find the bugger The buyer thought i had flogged it to someone else, I searched the boxes everyday over & over again. Eventually it just popped up in front of me So the answer is get rid now or stick it in the safe until the other one is sold !!!!!

Think of being at the record tables at a do ..many boxes some the same records ..many prices. I had a great find the other day I saw a record listed by a dealer at 85.00 pounds and found the same record in the states for.... wait for it .... 15.00 pounds I do admire your manners though something you don't see very often Edited December 9, 2010 by Carms

Guest Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Failing to mention that you originally listed it for £50, which did need commenting on pete... please stop with tit-for-tat nonesense however you want to dress it up it was a case of bullying and harrasing in a sales thread to then list one yourself to make a profit. As people tried to explain to you, the price was what it was feching on ebay and as you've just said in another thread, "if someone wants to give me £50 for mine i'll take it". I am not greedy when it comes to selling, I would have had no problem of dropping my prices when asked by buyers ... and i'm sure there are plenty on here that would testify i tend to drop my prices drastically .. sometimes to well below half their value. you did not just make a comment ... you went on to post further comments to make yourself look like the soul police of pricing ... a point that has been picked up a feew times on Soul source now. perhaps it might just be worth stopping and thinking about that instead of always trying to prove yourself right and justified by all your actions on here best regards, mike

paultp Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I'm supposed to try to stop people getting ripped off as part of my (Soul Source moderating) job Mike. Sorry, are you saying that as a moderator it is your job to check prices that people are offering records for sale at? I thought sales prices were a matter for the seller (and the buyer if you get one). If this is what you are now doing could I ask what you are using as the benchmark for this checking?
Raremusicdirect Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 As its an open (moderated) forum and a free market its my view that a Seller should be able to list any item at any price at any time. It was nice of the Seller to consider and ask in the circumstances Its actually quiet a small and specialist market and remaining friendly and acting with integrity is important
NEV Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Personally i think the thread should be locked now as Kieran's initial question has been answered, and he's posted his list of records . It's now turned into a slanging match between Mike and Pete which is totally nothing to do with the thread topic.

paultp Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Your sales list. Always good to get a mature response
