Haven't a clue..never went,

Could not understand WHY anyone would want to spend all night listening to played out Oldies.

Things dont change much do they??

Still convinced that these and Mr. Ms started the trend of looking backwards that continues today.

I kind of agree. Although at the time to those of us youngsters who only went in 80/81 the sounds in Ms were completely new and exciting and i spent most of my time in there. To the veterans it must have seemed like a backward step though.

Yes in did, a giant step backwards.

But to be fair, it did bring a lot of new blood to the scene and like you said it was exciting for your age group.

It just seemed a bad idea at the time.

That's spot on! They weren't 'Oldies' to you because you were new to the scene.

Oldies are only 'Oldies' to 'Old Soulies'.....................to 'New Soulies' they're 'Newies' and most of them fantastic 'Newies' to boot!

I understand the view that looking back all of the time isn't healthy. But neither is burying your heritage away so deep that in the end no one knows where it is or what it was!!!

We need a healthy mix of both the old and the new and not dogma in favour of one to the exclusion of the other.

tony newman - let the good times roll - soul-tbc

Used to love watching the dancers doing there stuff to this one, used to sit on the balcony in M`s watching in amazement. There was one lad who used to dance in front of the stage JIMMY his name was, i knew he was a scotch lad and spoke to him quite regular back then. I was djing up in Aberdeen a couple of weeks ago and asked some of the lads if they knew him. Double edged sword they knew Jimmy but sadly he`s now passed away.............AMAZING DANCER

I'll make myself look ridiculous now (not for the first time) but as someone who was a regular at the Casino (well once a month 'ish) from 1976-1979 I don't recognise half of the titles on that list. Could be that I would know the tunes if I heard them but from the titles alone, I don't.

I played BettyTurner's "Winds Kept Laughing" at Warwick last weekend and the reaction was as if most of the crowd had never heard it!!! No adverse reflection on them....it just suggests that there are so many so-called Oldies not being played that they are being lost to this generation. I think that's a sad state of affairs.
