hullsoul Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 https://cgi.ebay.com/...atchlink:top:en dave Dave Heard the it odd time here & there over the passed few years but not noticed it been played that much while out recently??? Remember Trevski championing it a few years back. Always thought demo's were about a ton & issues a bit more??? But what do I know Cheers Martyn
Anoraks Corner Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I remember paying £8 for my first copy and being disappointed when I played it on my home Hi-Fi, as the drums are too punchy The previously unissued version on the Sony CD compilations a few years ago is MUCH smoother and more Northern imo...check it out
Trev Thomas Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 bloody hell, for a demo i,'d have said 100 quid, 150 on a good day, somebody must really want it, never seen a issue must be pretty rare
Wiganer1 Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 gr8 oldie,,,one of russ's at wigan i do believe.........
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) bloody hell, for a demo i,'d have said 100 quid, 150 on a good day, somebody must really want it, never seen a issue must be pretty rare Blimey. Almost $500 with 6 bidders and 6 hours to go. That's going some innit? It's making me wonder any of the bidders have been reading the 'How Come They Never Made It Big' thread 'cos it's in there. Maybe it found a few new fans.....? And the issue is incredibly rare. I think I've only seen it once....... Ian D Edited November 27, 2010 by Ian Dewhirst
Greety Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I've just seen an Uptights "Shy Guy" Columbia demo on ebay for $493 with six hours left. So that's well over three hundred pounds for what I always thought was a hundred pound record. albeit nm condition and a brilliant record as well. Has this become a big tune for anyone or have I been propelled ten years into the future?

When the album was being mastered I couldn't believe how clear the mix was compared to the single. I think the 'muddy' mix on the single hampered it's chances to be honest. If the mix on the CD had been released instead of the one used for the single it really would have been a monster. So if anyone wants to hear the best mix of this it's available for a mere £4 with free shipping from Amazon and you can hear a clip here........ The Blackpool Mecca Story Ian D

Agree, a total monster...the drumming and bass are flippin' fantastic and dancefloor friendly!
NEV Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Just a thought here ...... Maybe the buyers are confused and think theyre getting Bobby Mac on vended
Dylan Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Just a thought here ...... Maybe the buyers are confused and think theyre getting Bobby Mac on vended you would have to be very very confused as there is a soundclip with the auction

Chalky Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 the two topics have been merged and title changed.....
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I think it's a different take rather than mix? Agree, a total monster...the drumming and bass are flippin' fantastic and dancefloor friendly! It could be. I've never actually done a close comparison - I just assumed that the single was simply badly mastered.....? I'll have to give 'em both proper listens again and work it out. It was lucky that we insisted on using the original master tapes otherwise this mix/version would still be unheard. You can even clearly hear the countdown at the beginning of the track.......it blew my socks off when I heard it over studio monitors for the first time....... Ian D
Shsdave Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I think it's a different take rather than mix? Agree, a total monster...the drumming and bass are flippin' fantastic and dancefloor friendly! yes it's one I've always loved & still give it the very occasional spin in my front room never heard the alternative version/mix until now but spot on David, sounds fantastic Ridiculous price btw Dave
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Title: Uptights - Shy Guy - Columbia added by chalky on 27 Nov 2010 artist: Uptights title: Shy Guy (Soul Time 1 cd take) Yep. Same take. I think Soul Time's long deleted now but the Blackpool Mecca CD's still available. Worth buying for that track alone. Ian D Edited November 27, 2010 by chalky

Ian D I used to pester richard searling to play this at the casino,he always said it would have it's day, that was 1975 though ,isn't the lead singer doris duke?
Jumpinjoan Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I've just posted the Soul Time cd take Jeez... she sounds a bit angry in that take
Dylan Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 do you get the flip side on the demos and is it any good ?
Gary Samways Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 well i must have some sort of hearing problem!!! , that doesn't sound much different to my copy
Jumpinjoan Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 well i must have some sort of hearing problem!!! , that doesn't sound much different to my copy It is a little different but only the vocals. She sounds in a right bad mood Must say I prefer the issued version

Guest Soulman45s Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Sold one to Manship a few years back for £50. Remeber it being on lists for about £60 at the time, so I'd say no more than £100 for a demo definately.
Spook Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) I sold a demo on Ebay a month ago (30th Oct) EX+ for £99.99 only one bidder (from Oz) Maybe being re activated down under !!! Spook Edited November 29, 2010 by spook
