Thanks, Simon Don't believe Ad-Libs has been booted San Remo golden Strings counterfeit is vinyl, originals pressed in styrene. Lots of records have matrix numbers that appear to be 'scratched' in. Suggest you get a bootleg guide or price guide to help you. Always loads of free advice to be had on here. Happy hunting gary Edited November 17, 2010 by gazman

Guest Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I am just going to slip in a related question. I have considered buying Manship's bootleg guide, but does it contain any information that the latest price guide doesn't have? The latest price guide highlights titles if they have been bootlegged, and in the back of the book there are scans showing originals vs. bootlegs. So is it worth it to buy the bootleg guide if I already have the latest price guide?

UK singles are made of vinal, styrene is more britle and a harder feel to it if you flick it its got a tinny ring to it and tends to wareout quicker
Guest Dante Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) Vinyl is better quality the styrene. UK singles are made of vinal, styrene is more britle and a harder feel to it if you flick it its got a tinny ring to it and tends to wareout quicker Easiest way to spot the difference is styrene records have stuck on labels; they look as if you could unstuck them with your nail. Vinyl records' labels are moulded on. If you have a record with painted labels, you can also tell the difference by holding with one finger by the center and flicking it (is this the right word for slightly hitting with your nail?). Styrene will have a thick, crispier sound; vinyl will sound 'thumb', rounder, if you get my drift. Edited November 18, 2010 by Dante

The latest guide is far more complete Seb and much easier to use in helping to identify most known boots and counterfeits,, ATB Greg.
