Kris Holmes Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 ok, I'll stop now, there're just too many Chess records in my house....... this is just some of them. One of my favorite labels of all time.
Munchkin Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Chess https://www.globaldogproductions.info/c/chess.html
Anoraks Corner Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Resisting the temptation (for now!) to go for the entire family of labels (and genre), here are some Chess Soul releases:
Guest aintgotit Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 fantastic pics , woul love a copy of chuck berry,s dear dad.cheers for posts you two
Anoraks Corner Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 (edited) Sadly, the 60's Chess family releases did not actually appear on the Chess logo in Japan...they saw release via the Globe label, which covered many labels and genre. Here's a solid center EP: Edited November 14, 2010 by Anoraks Corner
Anoraks Corner Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I'm after a US Checker WD of Bo Diddley's 'I can tell', if anyone can help me out...PM please if you can!
cloth ears Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I was told that even Chess Records didnt have a copy of this when they did their "knight bros" cd, hence no details about it!
Guest julesp1905 Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) West Coast Pressing of Jo Ann Garret, And UK Little Walter, which i'm told is pretty hard to get now Edited November 15, 2010 by julesp1905
Kris Holmes Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 cripes, never seen that UK Little Walter on London. Awesome.
Guest Dante Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 One that should be on it's way to my house right now. Cheap and quality: billy stewart - what have i done - cadet
Guest julesp1905 Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 cripes, never seen that UK Little Walter on London. Awesome. Thanks Kris, Picked it up in a South Ealing Collecters Shop early this year, strong EX+ for £30, strangely, it is a slightly different version containing female backing.
Cheapsiderecords Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I dont believe the Canadian Argo, Etta James is a demo, it is an issue. See my previous post re. Deon Jackson on Canadian Carla. I also had this discussion with Dave Moore re. the Canadian Curtom releases which were also on white label up until a certain point I have not yet figured out.
Dean Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Have loved this album for decades. Given to me by Dave Kettle (or was it loaned?!). Never seen any other volumes in the series. Anyone else? Billy Stewart - Summertime Fontella Bass - Rescue Me Ramsey Lewis Trio - The 'In' Crowd Etta James and SugarPie De Santo - In the Basement Little Milton - We're Gonna Make it Big Maybelle - It's a Man's World Bobby Womack - See Me Through Little Milton - Feel So Bad Ramsey Lewis - Wade in the Water Ko Ko Taylor - Wang Dang Doodle Fontella Bass & Bobby McC,ure - Don't Mess Up A Good Thing Bobby Moore & Rhythm Aces - Searching For My Love Bobby Womack - Come a Long Way Fontella Bass - Recovery Chuck Berry - You Came a Long Way From St Louis Bo Diddley - We're Gonna Get Married
Dean Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Damn cheap and bloody damn good. Must be two of the best soul records to be enjoyed over and over again and again:
Kris Holmes Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Damn cheap and bloody damn good. Must be two of the best soul records to be enjoyed over and over again and again: I think "Drifting Drifter" was the first Little Milton 45 on Checker I ever owned, pulled out of either Flashback or Haggle (whatever one of those stores has a downstairs) in East London.
Anoraks Corner Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 few from me.......... Timiko stock copy...nice one Jim
Pomonkey Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 So...what's the rarest Chess 45?? Tough one that comes to mind - though no doubt there's tougher - is Charlie Brown (really!) "The whole world is watching", belting little number too.
Kris Holmes Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 according to cfrenzy the most expensive ones are in order: Eddie Boyd "Back Beat" on red vinyl. Bobby Sisco "Go Go Go" (rockabilly) George Kirby "What Can I Do" The Valentinos "Sweeter Than The Day Before" wlp Ray Frazier "Gonna Get Your Love" according to popsike: Jackie Brenston "Rocket 88" Jimmy Rogers "Left me With A Broken Heart" Tony Clarke "Landslide" wlp The Moonglows "I Knew From The Start" UK on London The Vibrations "Make It Last" wlp all of these are pretty hard to turn up.
Djr Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 3 of my favorites from perhaps my favorite label, although I prefer the black Chess label the best.
Supercorsa Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Here's one that first got me into this music, but is probably one of those that records that some never want to hear again played out tony clarke - landslide - soul-tbc Secondly here's one from the Checker label, enjoy ... cash mccall - i'm in danger - checker

Anoraks Corner Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 lp I used to sell that as a new release...that's on the Italian Greenline label (GCH prefix) from the late 80's. They released around x100 Chess family titles in total.

Kris Holmes Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 seems weird seeing GRT using the old label design on that Dramatics 45.
