Psamsara Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 Maybe demos are styrene? What about Little Willie Jones?
Psamsara Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 ... and shouldn't sellers state if pressing is styrene?
Sebastian Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Curtis Lee exists on both vinyl and styrene. I've only ever seen Little Willie Jones on vinyl. It would surprise me if that tiny label 45 was pressed on two different locations or more than one time. In my experience, the majority of all buyers don't care whether a 45 is pressed on styrene or vinyl. So it's not really something that a seller SHOULD state, but it's ofcourse good if they do for those of us that do care.

As always you are here to help  Moerer has plenty of copies (Little Wille Jones) and they are all on styrene Â
Psamsara Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 You can allways ask. That's pretty obvious. Â .. and i do. Just seems logical to me if a record exist both on styrene and vinyl, that the seller state if it's styrene.. not when it's vinyl off course.
Godzilla Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Only if you buy into the myth that vinyl is always the better format...
Mrtag Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 AS stated WHEN in DOUBT just ASK!! Problem Is Half Of The Sellers Don't Know The Difference!!
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Only if you buy into the myth that vinyl is always the better format... Funny that , I find on 70ts and some 60ts the bass is better on the styrene. Edited November 12, 2010 by Prophonics 2029
Kris Holmes Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I love the loud, clear, crisp sound on many styrene 45s when they are mint. Unless you don't know how to set up a turntable or plan on cueing it up or scratching with it then there isn't really a problem with buying new old stock styrene 45s. If Moerer has a load of Little Willie Jones on styrene he is probably sitting on a box of mint deadstock & they will probably sound awesome.
Sebastian Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Moerer has plenty of copies (Little Wille Jones) and they are all on styrene The 45 pictured in his "buy it now" on eBay and on his site is definitely pressed on vinyl. Check it out: https://www.recordsby...keywords=297107 https://cgi.ebay.com/...em=300491830711 By the way, he has got 23 copies in stock at the moment. Edited November 12, 2010 by Sebastian
Benji Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Just seems logical to me if a record exist both on styrene and vinyl, that the seller state if it's styrene.. not when it's vinyl off course. Can't see any logic behind that. Why should I state the record is styrene or vinyl?
Reg Scott Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) The 45 pictured in his "buy it now" on eBay and on his site is definitely pressed on vinyl. I agree with Benji on the relevance of styrene vs vinyl. Styrene can often sound superior to vinyl with a very clean reproduction. What matters is the grading accuracy. If records are only visually graded there is always a chance that there may be some possible distortion or damage even on a NM looking or even unplayed 45. It is then true that vinyl is generally the more resilient over time so care of the 45 is key to keep styrene in top order. IMHO :-) ATB Greg. Edited November 12, 2010 by ClearVinyl
Dave Pinch Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 it only needs mentioning if its styrene and has cue burn which is a bugbear with some people or an item that has been booted and the 45 need a bit more clarification. otherwise no need to bother dave
