Pete S Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Soul Sam "And we kick off with this one... Don Ray and ....Born A Boozer!" Regards, Dave On a similar theme, Richard Searling used to have a crafty tipple at the Casino some nights and I can well remember him introducing John Leach as "Put that whiskey down". Also introducing Ben Zine as "Village of paraffin". Comedy was different in those days.
grant Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 searling at the casino, just before playing sam williams....... spurs had been beaten by man u that day 5-0, his intro was 'what about tottenham, 5 offside goals' ....class!
Mrtag Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 searling at the casino, just before playing sam williams....... spurs had been beaten by man u that day 5-0, his intro was 'what about tottenham, 5 offside goals' ....class! Only Searling Could Get Away With That!!
Simsy Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) Remember a club called The Car Wash, somewhere in London years ago - The regular funky inhabitants were exiting as our lot were turning up, though inevitably a few pish takers were ligging about. I don't remember the record played but clearly remember Keb's intro... "If you don't like soul music, fook off"! Edited November 10, 2010 by Simsy
Guest Matt Male Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Memorable for me: Butch at Keele ended a run of New Orleans labelled tracks with the words "back on dry land". Not long after hurricane Katrina. Ted Massey introduced a song with "One for us big lads" and played You're On Top Girl Most memorable for me was Brian Rae at Brum Locarno, always played You Been Away and always introduced it by simply saying "Rubin"... (cue storming opening bars).
Guest in town Mikey Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Guy H playing June Conquest at Stafford - Wait for the beat. Guy playing any record at Stafford - Wait for the beat One I had on tape that seems to have disappeared. Keb had stood in for guy for a couple of records as Guy was running late. Guy took over. 45 minutes from Peterboro, my hands are shaking like buggery. These are the Chaumonts, and I need to sit down.
Andyf Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I remember introducing the Cooperates at SITC as the Co-operates not deliberately as it happens to general hilarity. Could have sworn there was a hyphen in there.
Dave Rimmer Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 One I've used "Oh shit ! Wrong side, that's what you get when you mix DJs and beer !"

Gary Samways Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 best one has to be the late great Bub who always introduced The Poets as"She took a blue thing"
Guest Brian Ellis Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) Sam doing a Richard Searling show on (the then) Jazz FM. He had an hour-long slot to play what he wanted. Part way through his hour Richard asked if could interrupt and just play one special request for someone who'd written in. He played the request - Eddie Bishop Call Me. As the record ended Sam came in and said as he cued his next record - 'Right, now let's get back to soul music'. Edited November 10, 2010 by Brian Ellis
Guest Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 One saying that stands out for me is the lubbly Sean Chapman who says "let's be 'avin' ya" before promptly leaving the stage and dancing to it himself - quality

The Tempest Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 I have him on live tape at Glenrothes 1st Anniversary mid 80's plugging it five times in his spot as the Fabulous Impacts , each introduction is full of energy and zest for this new discovery , on the the last play he just plainly says - " FUCKIN' MASSIVE !!!!! " as only HE can and the place erupts !!!! , the hairs still stand up on the back my neck every time I hear this record spun , happy days indeed
Davetay Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 "This one from Joe Matthews and I Don't Like To Lose" Surely it was Joe Matthews and the Inserts and "I Don't Like To Lose"

Guest Mick Donnelly Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 This was used as an intro to Don Thomas by Paul Donnelly 1975 at the soul Cellar in Peterborough... A mother and her son were standing on a platform at a railway station when the mother says......"Boy get away from the edge of that platform ,....
