Daniel Harvey Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Hey all , heading stateside this Febuary and just in the planning stage now. Apart from New York, I'm looking to head somewhere else for a week whilst my travel buddies are building snow men out canada way. Other than Simpsons references my knowledge of American cities is very poor indeed...so I thought I would choose the one with the best array of record shops....I thought detroit, Chicago and Philly would be the obvious choices but maybe there is a better city out there for records? I know people on here are far and wide travelled in this business of crate digging and was wondering if anyone could pass on their advice as to which city they have found to be the best for finding soul 45s? Thanks, Muchly, Daniel.
Blake H Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Not been for a while but LA and San Francisco have been good to me over the years. LAs a tad warmer too BH
Staceys Dad Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 where ever you go have a look for the car boot sales, they are usually on a saturday-sunday mornings, think you might just get lucky....right place right time.
Guest Mark Holmes Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Find out which cities had black music radio stations in them during the 60's and 70's and start from there.
Cheapsiderecords Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) Stay out of Canada, especially South West Ontario, no vinyl here, nothing. Record Shows and shops are rubbish, you would just be wasting your time. The one time I went to Cleveland for a long weekend I did OK but anywhere up that way will be f**king cold so wrap up warm. You also get a trip round the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Detroit, Chicago and Philly would also fall under the - f**cking cold at that time of year - category Edited November 4, 2010 by newer

Cheapsiderecords Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 If you do decide to come to Toronto let me know and I will give you address for Henry's place out in Scarborough and a couple of other shops in and around the city. Cosmos West on Queen Street is not bad as well. 1000's of 45's in the basement but you have to leave them whilst he "prices" them? There was a post not so long ago about shops in the U.S..
