Pete S Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 How come the sellers have got the book in stock but the poor deluded f*ckwits who paid 6 weeks in advance thinking they might get their books first haven't got their copies? It sucks.

Chalky Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Have you complained to the publisher/distributor?
Amsterdam Russ Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I got an email yesterday advising that the books are now in the warehouse and will be shipped this week...
Quinvy Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Just spoke to Tim...............such is the volume of orders, that they are delayed slightly, but will be posted out today and tomorrow......I thank you.

Agentsmith Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 the zoo book is concise and a must for anyone interested in what the uk's zoos and wildlife centres have to offer, lets face it, a good many here have kids still of a young enough age to be thrill by a visit to the zoo. there is currently one in the pipeline from tim about bristol zoo which, i think, is celebrating its centenary or something. with regards the delay of the wigan book, it was unavoidable and, if you had cared to notice, i posted about this fact on here just recently. tim was just as miffed as everyone else, particularly as having it available for prestatyn was a priority, however, he was equally pleased with the response there, from people placing orders. i believe this will be a big seller regardless of any controversiality and, for anyone going to the togetherness weekender, you will find ample copies on sale, care of several distributors. in tandem with that, i think i am going to do a tribute spot, showcasing the wierd and wonderful tunes that pitched for stardom at the casino during its 8 year reign.

Agentsmith I think most that pre ordered the book would have known about the delay with the publishers by way off email, But the question from Pete was "How come the sellers have got the book in stock but the poor deluded f*ckwits who paid 6 weeks in advance thinking they might get their books first haven't got their copies?" To be honest I pre ordered the book not just to get it first befor the sellers but the extras that went along with it, I take it the book on general sale will not have these extras or will they? Chalky Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 isn't one of those selling the copies something to do with the Out A Site publishers? Has the other got his copies to actually sell yet? Does it really matter if you get a copy a couple of days later than you thought?

Ian Dewhirst Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I actually just checked the sample pages on the link and I can't wait to get the book in my hands now. I'm a sucker for these type of books and I collect 'em all 'cos I collect music books anyway so I'm an easy target LOL.... Also I love the archival aspect. It's really handy that a lot of the perifial stuff like flyers, ads, photos and other paraphanalia has been preserved. I'd managed to preserve a couple of scrapbooks which have been raped a few times for scans and other books, so I'm relieved that other people were keeping stuff too. Some serious history here and Tim's the right guy to do it. Glen's done a great job on the design by the looks of it. So that annoying kid with a hole in his jumper who I used to get to lug my records up the stairs at Samanthas wasn't so daft after all........ Come to think of it, he got my Duke Browner for £8 after pestering me to death for months............ Mmm. The book better be f*ckin good, that's all I can say......... Ian D

Ian Dewhirst Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 have you never thought about putting your memories to print ian?....just the snippets you post on here are so interesting. Well, I keep thinking about it and I've had a couple of great offers to do one but I gotta tell ya, it would be a long book, so it'll be bastard to write. So what I've been doing over the last few years is banging down some personal anecdotes from different eras on different forums that relate to my own experience and life. For instance, the amount of material I've generated on my Northern Soul and collecting experiences via Soul Source has been great. The thread about Simon Soussan where I remembered my arrival in L.A. generated a lot of interest from all over the place and even resulted in an offer for a book. If it hadn't been for Soul Source I may never have written that particular piece. Which is why I'm very respectful and grateful that a forum like Soul Source exists. But any major writing undertaking from me is a way off just yet. Plus my thing will be a totally different beast anyway. But what I love about all these books is that I read 'em and start remembering stuff I'd completely forgotten about. So really these books are like instant memory packs for inherently lazy sods like me. I just start reading these books and the memories instantly come back loud and clear. Just looking at the scan of a red Dynamo copy of Stanley Mitchell on the sample pages immediately triggered a memory. And I suddenly remembered what is was to like to be envious........... Hats off to anyone who has the discipline and work ethic to write a book and then get it published. And that includes everyone. All experience is precious! Ian D
Fishcake Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Just got my copy this mornin, and had a look at the content, thought it looked great. The write ups on the individual tracks were consise and very interesting .look forward to reading the book, and reading the rewiews.

Ian D hi ian, for what its worth, my opinion is already on here, yes, ive read it already and its the benchmark and attempting to enlarge on the subject in contemplation is akin to a sequel....with the sincerest respect to your venerable self....as walter jackson aspired " after you, there can be nothing", YOU being this fitting theosaurus. i believe will will ALL be quite right to signal this, in due course, as the greatest book on the subject of our devoted attention to ever be written and in the remainder of our lifetimes will prove to be the ONLY definitive one. rob
Telfordsoulboy Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Perhaps I just got a bit confusedin the hype surrounding the books release. I was expecting a warts and all analysis ofthe Casino, possibly one or two interviews with key individuals or with regularpunters. What we got was a book chroniclingand reviewing the most important records in this 1973 - 1981 period; records Iknow very well and didn't really need reminding of or telling how rare, good orcrap they actually are. I'm not sure if Mr Brown and Iattended the same club - some of his record choices are at bestquestionable. Whatever your own opinionof the tracks that he has listed, it questions why a book touted as the definitiveWigan Casino story is no more that a subjective view of a few records... and verysubjective these reviews are too. Whenreviewing anything it should be up to the reader/listener to make up theiropinion and not that of the author... a good way of alienating readers I'm sure. Mr Brown was very keen to pointout, on several occasions, of the shortcomings of Blues and Soul scribe FrankElson and the DJing prowess of Russ Winstanley... again why? The book is written well and readswell. The layout is good with lots ofadverts pulled from various music mags of the period. There is also an overview of a few specialistrecord labels of the time, but again no interviews... It leaves the readersomewhat short of information. Mr Brown mentions the changing DJline-up and again fails to have any quotes and/or interviews - just names...again I feel a bit short changed. Why didPep leave the Casino for Cleethorpes... these questions needed to be answered? I was amused by someone'sreference to a Beano annual... spot on. The front cover is very poor and is saved somewhat by a good backcover. No prizes for graphics here. Overall the book was disappointing...as I previously mentioned the book was written well and reads well, however, itleft me with far too many unanswered questions and wondering why the authordevoted so much space to anarchic record reviews.
Pete S Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 Why didPep leave the Casino for Cleethorpes... these questions needed to be answered? He didn't, he left Cleethorpes for the Casino - was on every fortnight in the Casino main room from 1976 to end of 77.
