(1) 7" Singles:

Bettye Swann 'Make Me Yours' (Abet / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £8 £4

( Superb midpaced girlie NS dancer – still a big spin on the 'Scene and 'I Will Not Cry' on the flip is also very, very sweet… )

Chubby Checker 'The Rub' / 'Move It' (Amherst / USA / 1976 / VG+) £6 £3

( Cool WDJ copy of this tasty little 70s midpacer – the guy could certainly hold a tune – few marks here and there on the wax – nothing major…flip is funkier… )

Ben E. King 'Teeny Weeny Little Bit' (Atco / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £20 £15

( Daft title hides an excellent midtempo NS tune on Ben – great little builder with fuzz guitar licks galore – neat WDJ copy too… )

Vigon 'The Spoiler' (Barclay / France / 1960s / Ex+) £15 £8

( Written / produced by Davy 'Bang Bang' Jones and just so cool in that ace 60s Mod / Organ vein with a strong dash of Northern Soul sensibility in there too – this guy's voice reminds me a lot of some of Eddie Grant's better earlier stuff on UK labels like President / Torpedo etc a la Zapatta Schmidt – lush string section here too – outstanding little 45, folks… )

Jon Lucien 'Creole Lady' (Columbia / USA / 1975 / Ex) £10 £5

( This track was thought rare enough to warrant a bootleg back in the early-90s………!! Lovely tune from Jon – his whole career output was exceptional, wasn't it? This is an ace track – getting right into that soon-to-come 'Rashida' groove here – must be rare on 7"? I've certainly never seen it before…love Jon's voice and love the FX going off all thru this cut too – such wonderful vision in the studio from producer Larry Rosen here…low crackle in the quieter passages – if this was a minter, I'd happily slap £20 on it…highly recommended…'Motherland' on flip is also just excellent…you lucky people…

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=1pZdwjynyNw

Ricky Gee 'Misery Loves Company' / 'I Will Get You There' (Conduc / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £10 £5

( Fair price for this NS classic double-sider – topside is strident uptempo and flip is a considered midpacer…few light scuffs – don't affect play… )

7034 – scan | soundfile

Joseph Henry Who's The King' (Desco / USA / 1990s / M-) £50 £35

( Stone minter – doesn't look like it's actually ever been played at all…definitely one of THE rarest / best of all of the Nu-Funk releases from the late-90s – price is still rising – these were limited pressings.…1000 max…

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=Dz9IwOcnbyE

Little Sonny 'Wade In The Water' (Enterprise / USA / 1970 / M-) £40 £25

Big Daddy Rucker 'Jealous Man' / 'The Big Daddy Shake' (GME / USA / 1960s / Ex) £50 £35

( New one on me – excellent, uptempo, funky R&B double-sider with strong shades of Bo Diddley at his peak – similar guitar style – one side vocal and the other side instrumental – beautiful shape and such a toughie to pick up – as is most stuff on this LA label, it seems – few scuffs / marks here and there – plays beautifully.. )

7049 – scan | soundfile

Carla Bagnerise 'Special Thing' (Hip / USA / 1985 / M-) £50 £30

( Surprised to see this on a 7" press? I'd always had it down as 12"-only – must be SO rare on 7"!?!? Anyways – believe me when I tell ya this is a much-wanted piece – loved / cherished by Boogie / Modern Soul collectors alike and this copy is stone mint – possibly even unplayed….great, great uptempo soulful "Boogie Business"…mixed by the legend that is John Morales and with a full instrumental version on the flip too…

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=0woyFPQ_wWE

Tyrone Edwards 'Can't Get Enough Of You' (Invictus / UK / 1974 / M-) £25 £15

7061 – scan | soundfile

Joyce Dunn 'A New Change Of Address' (Mercury / USA / 1967 / Ex) £50 £30

( One of THE best Sister Funkers on the circuit – never fails to ignite the dancefloor and we have a pretty WD copy here too – M/S – only graded down from Ex+ as the labels are a bit grubby and there's a tiny, tiny dink on the run-in groove of the Stereo side – doesn't affect play in any way – but y'all know I like to flag these things up on my Lists – just a brilliant, brilliant tune…

Kris Ife 'Give And Take' / 'Sands Of Time' (Music Factory / UK / 1968 / Ex) £10 £5

( Yet another nice tune on this talented man – all of his stuff is good and this Psyche shuffler is no different – I rarely come across any 7"s on this label – thought they were largely LP- based….? Nice… )

7065 – scan | soundfile

Alfie Davison 'Who Is Gonna Love Me' (RCA / USA / 1977 / M-) £10 £5

( The 'other' good record from the 'Love Is Serious Business' guy – this one is so good too – excellent NYC Disco/Soul cut arranged/produced by Tom-Tom Moulton – actually reminds me a LOT of that other RCA biggie from the same era, Bill Harris 'Am I Cold, Am I Hot' – great Disco / Percussion break in this too – was also covered a year or so later by Brit band, The Imperials – great little tune…impeccable M/S promo copy here… )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkLUxSYFMc4

Swiss Movement 'Take A Chance On A Sure Thing' / 'Inst' (RCA / USA / 1972 / Ex+) £10 £5

7080 – scan | soundfile

George Perkins & Fir-Ya 'Give It To Me' (Royal Shield / USA / 1970s / M-) £20 £10

( Excellent Disco/Funk from the ever-reliable Mr Perkins and the one and only Patrick Adams plays Moog and Synths on this + we also get a very indemand Deep Soul flip too. Stone mint copy here….Fir-Ya are the same band who gave us the massive 'Keep On Trying' 7" on Star-Glow a year or so earlier… )

Betty Harris 'There's A Break In The Road' (SSS Int' / USA / 1970s / Ex+) £30 £20

( It's officially unconfirmed but there's no doubt in my mind that it's The Meters backing up Betty H on this quality bit of Allen Touissaint-penned/produced Swamp Funk – grab a listen end try and tell me I'm wrong? More breaks than a Kit-Kat manufacturer's convention…good flip too 'All I Want Is You'….stunning shape… )

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=l5VaRSEvq8U

Syreeta 'Black Maybe' (Tamla Motown / UK / 1972 / Ex+) £8 £4

( Did ya know Syreeta was / is Rita Wright who gave us the wonderful 'Touch Me, Take Me' 2 Step biggie on Jet? Well – s'true. She was also married to Stevie Wonder for a while and this for me is just a G-E-N-I-U-S Stevie Wonder tune…pure 'Black Consciousness' sounds that normally only get released on labels like Black Jazz / Strata-East – definitely not for the masses…STAND UP, SIR DUKE… )

The Brothers & Sisters 'For Brothers Only' / 'Make Me Sad' (Toddlin' Town / USA / 1960s / Ex) £10 £5

Varetta Dillard 'Scorched' / 'Good Gravy Baby' (Triumph / USA / 1960s / VG+) £125 £90

( Rare, rare, rare WD copy of this outstanding R&B double-sider – topside uptempo and the flip more gently paced – a genuinely tuff piece – seems to have slipped under the radar as it doesn't appear on the net anywhere nor in any of the well-known price guides – lotsa surface marks but plays like a good 'un – very, very proud to be able to offer heavy rares like this to y'all… )

https://www.youtube.c...h?v=TYowGDXI5XI

( Whattavoice….! Just makes me melt…2 very, very good sides here and in outstanding condition – love having these ace Latin 45s in stock….this is the original, more soulful version from Joe's outrageously good 'Riot' LP

Wade Flemmons 'Watch Over Her' (Vee-Jay / USA / 1960s / VG+) £10 £5

( Big-voiced Wade gives us a slice of 'proper' old-school Northern Soul here – almost Popcorn, I guess? Definitely has thet 'lilting' rhythm that those collectors love so much – a goodie…. )

The Jay Walkers 'Olive Oil' / 'It's Been Too Long' (Wisteria / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £40 £20

( Rare one!! Again – seems to have evaded most people's attention as it's not in any of the main price guides nor has it ever been sold thru eBay either? Strange…anyways – both sides are funky organ tracks – topside is more 'raunchy' while the flip is more 'considered'….2 great cuts for yer dollah…. )

Joann Zachery 'Down To Earth' (Zacks / USA / 1960s / VG+) £60 £40

( Pure D.I.Y funker – female vocals with very heavy backing – very, very lo-fi but the inherent quality is obvious for one and all to hear – few marks to wax and there's a Radio Station stamp on the label but otherwise very, very nice shape – bona-fide RARITY… TUNE… )

I get charged 5% by Paypal as I have a Premier Account so I'll be asking you to add 2.5% to the total and I myself will add this to the Invoice once your order is finalised. Sorry folks but I just cannot swallow the 5% loss anymore – especially as I'm trying hard to keep my prices down anyway.
