too many

I try not to look... although next year I may dip my toes into a weekender in the Autumn as well as the spring and summer smile.gif

Just look through the events calendar for each month and count them up.

Mr,Tabs,

Are they all in there,I dont think they are my friend.

See you soon mate,no doubt with a JD, in your hand.

Kev.

more to add next year i hear....

Can't stop the runaway train it seems...

Got a few overseas i would like to try...

Think there was a topic about the weekenders on here in the past...

I think they counted 23 at the time.... Or something like that....

Could be they won't all be in the events.

But it would give you an idea.

Including the ones abroad I'd go for 30 this year as a guess.

See you a week today - JD in hand.

talking of which, just about to book our flights for 2011 hitsville mojacar Spain, yes it were that good!

It's getting a joke with the amount of week-enders, over kill gone mad.

We have Cleethorpes, Prestatyn twice, Whitby, Brid, Scarborough, Blackpool Tower, Weston Super Mare, Newquay, seen an advert for one in Berwick and sure another in Manchester (?), Soul Essence. Then you have the European ones Bamburg, Hitsville, Rimini and others. Something has to give, either some weekender's or all-nighters are going to suffer.

I've never been to a weekender and i just don't fancy them at all. I can understand the appeal though as we all get older to be able to stagger back to a chalet or caravan, meet up in people's caravans, join in fancy dress competitions, get off with a stranger etc... It feels like the music comes second to the socialising to me though.

They remind me too much of those Chris Hill run Caister jazz/funk weekenders when everyone danced on sand and danced with buckets and spades blowing whistles. The photos of those events in the early 80s used to make me shudder and be glad i was part of the Northern Soul scene where having too much fun is frowned upon along with the bootlegs and the CDs. laugh.gif

I still can't get my head round northern and weekenders going together. Maybe one day...

P.s. That's a picture of me 25 years ago...

Manchester weekender???? any details... Don't think i have heard about this one????

And more weekenders in the planning for 2011 i hear....

A full guide to 2011 weekenders would be of interest to many i guess... In the uk and Europe...

Maybe promoters want to forward details... Its all about planning well in advance for many now with work/ family/ etc etc etc...

Crackin' couple of posts towards the end of this thread. He He!

1. Never been to a weekender but feels qualified to critique that the 'music comes second to the socialising". He He! Great comedy writes itself. :hatsoff2:

2. "Something has to give'. Eh? Why? Some of us are having a blast Chalky. Get with the programme befiore it all disappears Mate. Some folks won't be really happy in their 'scene despondency' until there are only 2 gigs a month, 500 miles apart (Providing it's run/DJ'd at by them and thier mates of course!) He he! :D

Regards,

Dave

got to agree with you chalky....soulnights all take a hit whenever a weekender takes place...also it's very quiet on ss too.

Fair enough Mike.

Just on a quick check, there are Four-UK based (plus another few overseas) this month alone.

Could someone please explain the attraction to me.

I can , sort of, understand the few that get the artists on giving them a well deserved top up to their pensions.

And, I can, almost, see the point of buggering off for a bit of Sunshine and Soul

but a wet and windswept weekend in dreary run down UK holiday grotspot ??

Perhaps it's just me.

Again :)

but thats the point tony

why endure the same old ,same old, and wet dreary, w/ends at home,, for what to me is a worthwhile w/end away listening and dancing to our music with likeminded people, and aquiring new friends from different parts of the country

,beats allniters handsdown for me

wish I could afford to go to them all

cheers b:hatsoff2:

For me it's not the socialising, it's the constant music all day and all night. The attraction of the weekenders I choose is that I can dance all day and night over 3/4 days too without the 3 hour drive there and back again each time etc. The small amount of time spent in my accommodation is either in the shower or checking out the back of my eyelids trying to induce sleep

in an earlier post i stated that they were harming soul nites, but on reflection there are far too many soul nites!......3 days non stop partying and socialising can't be that bad. so get em all in before we are too old.

get off with a stranger

Does that happen?

I might try that myself as it would make the weekend a bit more exciting! Nah, not enough time

Another great post by you Dave as always.

Even back in the old days it was just as much about socialising and dancing as it was about the music.

Its all what makes this scene better than any other.

I think sometimes people forget that.
