Budget Northernsoul Deficits and Detroit

Turn the news on and we are inundated with cost cutting. If we are all to tighten our belts, are there any promoters who are going to give anything back to the punter over the coming years or so?

I know it's difficult yet I also know that there has been a gold rush of promotions over the last few boom years.

Will we see any efforts to lower prices or give incentives such as loyalty cards?

Can anything be done or are budgets squeezed as far as they can stretch when putting on a do?

Will the present climate affect the Nighter numbers? Will the Soul Night's thin?

I assume the majority of the promoter's outlay would be for the venue hire? The DJ's and equipment plus advertising and security along with insurance, I wouldn't like to be a promoter but are there any saving to be made than can be passed onto the punter?

I think you will find that most promoters make little if nothing at all as it is and can I'll afford to cut admission fees. £10 for ten to twelve hours entertainment isn't bad if you ask me, intact it is bloody good value for money. Any other dance scene and you pay much more in many instances.

Venue owners are not cutting their costs and in most cases they would make more money from a normal club type night.

Dj's still need paying, their costs are rising yet fees don't.

Chalky what you get for your money is without doubt excellent value.

I know that we car share more often than not to keep fuel costs within reach, I hope that the nighters aren't affected with the cost that are promised to climb?

I think the backrooms/function suites in pubs should be looked at more.Drove through south London up to Willesden a few weeks ago and I couldnt believe the amount of tinned up pubs there were..........the ones that are left would probably give these rooms for free if they knew there was going to be a load of ale over the counter.....then promoters would be able to give cheaper entrance fees..just a thought

Most soul nights, at a fiver to get in, are far cheaper than any regular night out. Like Chalky says most promoters keep the entrance fee low by not taking a penny in profit. The steward of the first venue we were at was bobsmacked we only charged a fiver entrance and tried to persuade us to put the price up but we wouldn't do it, apparently the Rock and Roll club were charging £7.50

I know what you mean though, with everything going up and making it harder to get out, cost of petrol especially, at least punters know the cost of getting in won't change.

As for getting rooms for free, i don't see how that would make a difference, we still have to pay DJs, buy new cartridges, hire or buy the sound system. If we have any more money left over at the end of the night we just pay the DJs more.

In my experience free nights with no outlay usually don't have any DJs on worth paying to play.

I think it is inevitable that the financial crisis will have an effect on venues in the future, fuel costs the biggest reason with petrol constantly on the rise, alcohol sales with tax rises year on year, fuel/heating costs at venues rising. All venue owners are bothered about by and large is what they take over the bar. The number of people sneaking alcohol in to venues is a big concern and I know of several complaints in recent times that bar takings are not what they should be or what they expect.
