Soulmitch
Hi, Any of you guys know about this https://www.ipsofactofilms.com/films/souled_out.html SOULED OUT IN DEVELOPMENT Developed with the support of Northern Film and Media. SHORT SYNOPSIS It's 1974, an age of industrial unrest, beer at fifteen pence a pint, and flares wide enough to sweep the pavements. This is the moment for two young lads from the North East of England as they throw themselves into their own hilarious coming of age, set against the backdrop of the explosive Northern Soul movement, the dance culture that goes on to drive Britain through its own cultural rites of passage. They are holding auditions here in Dublin today for NS Dancers. Don't know weather its being filmed over here or not. Link to comment Social source share

Corbett80
Fingers crossed they don't make a hash of it. I'm sure the music/dance scenes will be top notch but lets hope the 'comedy' isn't of the usually British film comedy quality. ie: cringeworthy. If its good it could be the scenes very own Quadrophenia Edited August 11, 2005 by mulf Link to comment Social source share

Guest
Why are they holding auditions in dublin, hardly a hot bed of northern events. link Amazing. Thought the misconceptions about the Irish soul scene had been left on the boat from Holyhead many years back. ANYONE who's been here can testify that it's one of the most vibrant, enthusiastic and clued in scenes around and that includes the UK. The Irish scene is made up of people aged 20 to 40ish who dance to and buy records enthusiastically. We are constantly unearthing new tunes that aren't played anywhere else. There are currently four regular soul nights on in this country which may sound a bit sad considering the plethora of nights on in the UK but in a country of 4 million people, (London, with 12 million people has a bigger soul scene than Ireland) it's extraordinary to have that level of support. We've had alldayers, allnighters and weekenders over the past few years and the calibre of guest DJs we've had has been amazing. Carl Willingham was a regular guest here for many years and sings our praises constantly. Ady Croasdell has DJd here a couple of times and loved it. And that's to name just two. Current Irish DJs have played in Bretby, Lowton, Cleethorpes, Rimini, Prestatyn, The Valatone in London, The Greatstone in Manchester, The Meadows Club Allnighters in Nottingham, Caegwrlre Soul Night in Wrexham, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, The 100 Club and the Blackburn Allnighters. I'm sure I've missed some but we do get about and probably wouldn't be asked as much if Dublin wasn't the hotbed of northern soul that it is. If you want to check it out there are always cheap flights with Easyjet or Ryanair and come over to Sleepless Nights, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best northern night this country has ever produced and there have been many. Also, don't come if you're an oldies fan because you'll be extremely disappointed. We do not play The Snake. We do not play The Night. In fact, as one of our best DJs Karl Mitchell put it "we don't play anything beginning with 'THE'". Link to comment Social source share

FrankM
It's a film thus its intended audience will be aged 14 to 25 (35 at a stretch). So that rules out most of us till it crops up after midnight on Channel 4 and we can persuade a grand wean to set the Betamax. If they can make Braveheart in Iireland and Batman in London they can make a film with a Northern Soul backdrop (pun intended) in Dublin. They have made Northern soul records in the UK you know. here's the Director's previous Shimmy Marcus Jeff Williams wrote it as a play a few years ago. Guest GrooveJunkies
Lets not forget what happened in the 1970s when "This England" was shown on TV, you will have 10,000 new Northern soulie's springing up over night. I think with that much exposure it will kill the scene off over night. One of the things that makes it special is the fact that it's underground. Most people who enter the scene do so by chance , or by right of passage and we haven't got the media poking its nose in saying its the latest craze so they can make lots of money out of it. I can see it now....., programs like SOUL- IDLE ,HIT ME SOULIE ONE MORE TIME, ,SPICE GIRLS SING NORTHERN. SOUL SWOP,SOUL ISLAND, IM A SOULIE GET ME OUT OF HERE, it just goes on and on For example, just like years ago when I was into the Mod thing long before Quadrophenia came out, what happens?: they make a film about mods! . The very next day 10,000 wannabe mods over night. I think it could be the end of the scene as we know it (Of course i hope I'm wrong) Link to comment Social source share
