Guest Ian 1930 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hi I'm new to the site but not to the scene having been around on and off for 35 years. The reason for the post is to see whether anyone can help to identify my copy of Kim Weston's 'Helpless'. I bought it in a record store in San Francisco in 1992. Finding it was one the highlights of the holiday! I think I paid $15 for it at the time which in those days was about £8. It was only recently when I compared it to the details in JM's price guide that I realised that it isn't the Gordy demo that I thought it was. Firstly, the matrix number is G-70 not Gordy 7050. Secondly, the B side is 'Take Me In Your Arms', not 'A Love Like Yours' and thirdly, does the description 'Audition Copy' rather than 'Radio Station Copy 'or 'Demonstration Copy' mean anything? Did I buy a 'dud' or a rare / unusual copy all those years ago? BTW, the deadwax has '175320' scratched into it if that helps. Replies appreciated!
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 It's a boot sorry. Both sides are seperate releases on Gordy. ROD
kevinsoulman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 THE MATRIX NO FOR THE WHOLE OF 65 ,ITS RELEASE YEAR RANGES FROM 55884 TO 59910 SO 175320 POINTS TO A RELEASE FAR LATER THAN THAT , HAVING A DOUBLE A SIDE POINTS TO A BOOT ME THINKS . KEV

Not an expert on this but check this link from Popsike. The seller is very knowledgeable, well known record dealer and a member of SS. He currently promotes the Burnley alnighter. https://www.popsike.com/KIM-WESTON-HELPLESS-PROMO-MOTOWN-NORTHERN-SOUL-45/4863992374.html
Guest Ian 1930 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks for the replies, you've confirmed my suspicions! I guess it was obvious really. Looks like one for the e-bay clearout!
