Interesting question Dave. I've collected the Veep label, off and on for over 30 years and I think I've had all but 3 of the 45's on the label at one point in time. However, I have never seen 1296. I've asked the same question to John Manship and Lew Stanley and they have never seen one either. Lew told me he doesnt know anyone who has seen one either. John Anderson told me he sent a box of Veep 1296 to a deep soul collector in the Netherlands in the early 70's, for the "Meet me in Church" side and before TSF became big on the Northern scene. I have no reason to doubt him and maybe he picked up the entire run of Veep demos. However, you'd have thought the odd one would have surfaced over time particularly if it was a 25 count box............

I think it's a case of believe it when you see it.

Two pressings on the label, to the best of my knowledge and both for the US market - firstly blue wax press of Four Havens - think this was for the doowop market and secondly Johnny Dunn's False Pride for the Island/Jamaican market. The Johnny Dunn is pretty hard on original which is on styrene with a bellsound stamp.

One of the most interesting releases on the label is the Four Havens on V 1214 - What time is it /Let's have a good time baby

Some of the demos are mis-pressed with Timothy Wilson "Hey Girl Do You Love me" on the "What Time is it" side (V1213)

Here's a "normal" 1214 and secondly a mis-press 1214

As best I can, I'll try and answer your question.

The label was formed in late 1964 and all releases V-1200 to V-1230 (ie thro August 1966) were on the Large Octagonal Design label.

V-1231 thro V-1247 ( August and September 1966) had releases on both the Large and the Small Oct Design label with the exception of V-1239 thro V-1245 which were all Little Anthony & Imperials releases on the Small Oct Design. These Little Anthony 45's were all leased from Don Costa's DCP label and were released in September 1966.

The run V-1248 (October 1966) thro V-1306 (the last release on the label, early 69 ?) are all on the Small Oct Design label. This run included four (4) releases on the Veep Gospel Series (V-1299 thro V-1302) which all had a slightly different label design (see scan attached).

There are a few numbers which have no confirmed releases within the runs. V-1296, the Don Varner 45, was supposedly voided December 18, 1968.
