Been sat on this 7" Audiodisc acetate for six years or so, during wihch time I've not been able to place the artist, track or label.

Sounds like it could easily fit in with Duke, Peacock or Sure Shot, soundwise...or maybe a tiny indie NYC label?!

What a vocal...sounds very accomplised...tremendously Soulful for sure!

Anyone any idea as to who he is or as to whether the track(s) reached vinyl...soundfiles below:

Certainly got that Texas feel to it Dave

I'd go along with those sentiments - doesn't seem to have enough orchestration synonymous with N.Y. to be a Big Apple sound, methinks..

Either way - feckin' AWESOME tune dave !! :hatsoff2:

Ok, this is a long shot but may be worth checking out. Unfortunately I can't find any soundfiles.

If indeed they are Texas recordings then Roy Head did a track called "I'll Be Around" on Dome (wriiten by Huey Meaux)

DM-1234 Roy Head- I'll Be Around / Southbound Train To Memphis (unsure if Dome is or not one of Huey Meaux's labels)

Also there is this on Huey Meaux's Jet Stream

JS-715 Prince Charles- Sick / Get Down On Your Knees And Pray

As I say it's a long shot without the soundfiles.

I can confirm that that is Prince Charles, "Sick." Actually, I shouldn't be so quick to say that. It's the same song, and the same backing track, but I'm in an office right now where I can't turn up the volume loud enough to judge whether it's the same vocal. See for yourself. I played it on the radio here: https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/33633

Use the pop-up player; "Sick" starts at 4:53. (You can manually move the cursor ahead to there.)

That's great and yeah, deffo the same vocal.

Well, we're on the right track with one side identified. Just got to find a soundfile now for Roy Head "I'll Be Around" or any other "I'll Be Around" with Texas and/or Huey Meaux connections. If the "I'll Be Around" soundfile is same song and not the same vocal as Roy Head then possibly could be a cut by one of Meaux's other artists.

Roy Head soundfile anyone?

Impressive detective work, Arkwright!

Thanks but really it was just a matter of using Texas as the base and google key wording. Once I'd found the Huey Meaux connection I thought it was a possibilty.

Impressive radio show

Good work chaps...I think we've got our man in Prince Charles, though the Jetstream 45 seems to be a (slightly) different take with Prince possibly holding back his throaty grittyness? Does your record skip at 06:57 or is that how it is...different to the acetate.

I always assumed it was the same singer both sides, but on playing them again it could be two different guys...any Roy Head experts out there wanna put us out of our misery?

Vocals sound gritty in the same spots to me....That does sound like a skip. I'll have to dig up the 45 and see what's up.

Oh, and by the way: I have read somewhere on the Internet that PRINCE CHARLES = CHARLES SHEFFIELD.

Here's another acetate outta Texas...Prince Charles aka Charles Sheffield again?

If you like Jazzy Soul / swinging R'n'B, then I suspect you're gonna like this...quite a bit!?!
