I thought this was a 45 where there aren't even that many in actual known existence? If so, be prepared to pay big if one comes up for sale.

I don't think this is a "known copies" type of thing, but it does come up for sale almost never

In all the years I was chasing this record and in all the years since obtaining it I don't ever recall seeing a copy up for sale/auction/swop whatever, either in the UK or America or indeed anywhere.

Wouldn't like to hazard a guess on price but its got to be up in the range Chris A mentioned previously. And you would think because of its high value people would occassionally be off loading them and copies would rotate around the world of collectors.

How about this for a theory - because you never see them, is that a good indication of just how rare it is?

Would assume it was a very limited white demo press at the time and never made it to the shops as a red issue.

Think she only did 2 records - this one and the one on Brena "You'll get it right back" and I don't know which came first. Did Twinight sign here on the strength of the Brena 45? However if Brena came afterwards then Twinight must have signed her up as a virtual unknown?

So despite her qualities she wasn't a big hitter and Twinight might have been tempted not to plough loads of money into her promotion.

Whilst I remember has anybody got a copy of Harrison & Majestic Kind on Twinight for sale or swop please?

onwards,

derek

The story of how I got my copy is one of those just bizarre 'once in every ten years' allnighter stories that makes collectors just keep on looking and looking. And looking.

And finally my copy has got a 1cm edge crack hence the pencil arrow at 7o'clock.

Derek you promised me your copy as a wedding present - and I got married nearly 10 years ago now...

Come round for your tea soon, and bring it with you

Oh and if a copy comes up for sale - Johns behind me in the queue :hatsoff2:

I found my copy in a place called Olympic which is in Washington state in the late 90s....a very unusual place to find a Chicago record. I payed $1.00 for it, had no idea of the value/rarity at the time, i just bought it because i had heard it on a tape the week before and i quite liked it!

I did find another copy in Chicago in 2003, cracked but played ok. I gave this copy to my old mate John Weston as i knew he had been looking for a copy for years.

Great thread, and good stories from Chris and Derek, always loved this since i first heard it, via a tape, didn't realise it was demo only until you mentioned it Derek. I think Twinight is a fabulous label, but for me another which i also know is very hard to obtain, and is probably my most wanted 45' is the incredible Kaldirons and the staggeringly beautiful ' To Love Someone'.

Hey up Brett - it was only an assumption of mine that "Wayward Dream" is white demo only simply based on its rarity. But who knows what collectors have got tucked away somewhere.

Have got a very faint recollection that it was the mighty Alan Darker that first put me onto it after hearing via one of his tapes at a Southport weekender circa early nineties.

I tell you what is pretty amazing - - - there's no mention of Annette Poindexter anywhere in Popsike.

Guess that means since Popsike was launched no copies of her Twinight 45 have sold through Ebay.

That's my girl Kirsty - quick as a flash and you were in there hahaha....

And finally for those that don't know the tune under discussion here - this is what the fuss is all about:

annette poindexter - wayward dream -

blimey Dirk you've made me all damp and unnecessary xx

I'm think it's been on ebay since popsike, I vaguely remember it being there once, popsike doesn't list everything.

I remember seeing a red copy but I'm also not 100% sure. I think the only twinight records that never came as stock were the Perfections and Velma Perkins, the rarest two on the label.

Hi Bob, interesting stuff, have you a Velma Perkins ?, what about the Jo Ann Garrett track ' Goin man Hunting', did it ever get pressed ?, have you seen that or know of its actual existence, i heard your show when you had interviewed Elvin Spencer, did you manage to meet or talk to any other Twinight artists, musicians?. I noticed that there are recent clips on Youtube of the Kaldirons and actually there is a very nice live version by JC Brooks of their fantastic 45' that i mentioned previously on the thread.

I have the full twinight label run actually (including the Velma Perkins), some day I will scan it and post it. I got the last record I needed (a rock record by the Rooks) about a year or two ago. The Jo Ann Garrett was never pressed. Here are the twinight artists I've interviewed: The Notations, The Mist, Elvin Spencer, Dynamic Tints, Kaldirons, Mystiques, Renaldo Domino, Syl Johnson.

I assume both takes of Nate Evans ' Main Squeeze' ? the demo and issue...

i actually only have the weird alternate take with the songwriter singing it (but if I scan them all you can't tell the difference smile.gif)

john manship auctioned an annette poindexter a few years ago. i think it went for around £500. john might come on and tell deffo price but he definately had it. i think i first heard it on a `pitches` tape around 94 so maybe sean hampsey or tats had a copy then. i think derek P had recently purchased it about that time as well for not a lot and i tried to prize it out of him but to no avail. i would still love a copy. ive only seen a handful of white promo`s over the years and no issues so it probably doesn`t exist although i`d love to be corrected

Gonna dig mine out for a spin at the next "Dab of soul". Always a nice one to start with.....

Chris

With Lars and Andy 'Tats' on, along with the residents, this is a must and my team will certainly be there.
