the 'raw garage version' is probably the Bare Facts on Goldrode(sp?). No horns, I think, I may even have the record somewhere.

Charlie was the name of a women's perfume. I remember TV commercials for it. I dunno if there's a connection to said record, I've never owned one (nor do I want to).

The best version is by the Grass Roots, it was not released on a US 45 (LP cut only) but did come out somewhere in Europe I believe.

There was something like 200 copies of the Little Flint 45 'found' some years ago. Don't over pay for it! The producer (co) wrote a book about Cincinnati music and mentions the band, the book is interesting but heavily biased towards artists he had personal connections with.
