Casino..........nowa Days

Just been reading some of the postings from MEMORABILIA from the Casino and it entered my head "what if " the casino had been saved from demolition?"

Sorry if this has been asked before but it makes you wonder. Would the alnighters have gone on if they had sorted the drug problem out? (in my mind that is why the council swayed for the closure of the Casino, (the extension to the civic centre was just a ploy) please correct me if I am barking up the wrong tree here, Would the northern soul nights have dwindled and be replaced by something else and hosted the rave culture? and can you imagine the interest now regarding the scean as it is today, the place would be bouncing.

I for one would have been queing for a ticket and enjoying the surroundings.

Or is this just the rantings of a 50 year old man who wishes that it was still there.....................ahhhhhh, memories

Looking at it from a very logical stand-point John there is absolutely no way would folk be enjoying the Casino today!

Let's look at the facts;

The all nighters started there in 1973 - I don't think that there is a club night in the World let alone the Country that has lasted 37 years has there?

Let's face it, the place (not the atmosphere) was a bit of a s**t hole wasn't it? Toilets were always an effin' mess, condensation dripping from the ceiling, crap dance-floor (in comparison with other places) and so on. Would many folk still be excited about going to such a place 37 years on unless it had been refurbed - the local council/environmental health wouldn't have allowed it given the plethora of current health, safety and environmental legislation which wasn't around when it closed (the first aid regs only came out in 81)?

A lot there to say it wouldn't.

It's a very nice thought,to think the casino club had it survived,I think lots of people would still have enjoyed going for the cameraderie, but to enjoy it to the extent what you used to,would'nt you still have to be the same age as what you were then ? oh you know what I mean, just having trouble explaining it.

I think what you're trying to say is that the Casino was 'of it's time' and that was the 70's when we were young(er).

Webby's right though, its a wonder it didn't collapse but hey, they were built to last in those days.

Mmm dont know really, but what about venues that are still here but not used for nighters....Clifton Hall/ Parr Hall/ Queens Hall Bradford/ Oddfellows/ Leisure Center Hinckley .......I think all still with us but the only one that would be perfect for todays scene would be Clifton Hall.......perfect in size me thinks.

The Queen's Hall is now student accomodation .

There is one iconic and memorable venue still standing that could house an all - nighter ...... but you will have to dance around the snooker tables laugh.gif

Up The Junction In Crewe- Never actually went but recall seeing the building during my first trip to see the mighty Iron at Crewe many years ago.

Cleethorpes Winter Gardens would have been a perfect building for nowa days had it not been demolished.

Well spotted Steve that the photographs I posted , were of the building that housed The Junction on Gresty Road in Crewe .

In respect of TWG , I agree : it would have been ideal .

I think if Wigan and places like it were still going, i doubt if you would get many people in nowadays.

What made all those places and memories of our youth so magical,is that they are just memories now.

People would have just taken it all for granted if you could still go to places of your past,or even buy anything readilly available from back then.
